Question can anyone confirm that once you have installed your mods and vmods is it then safe to delete the files out of the pakages folder, as mine is now 4 gig in size, I have a SSD and space is vital for me :)

I do believe that has been confirmed already. Can't point you to the post itself as it was right at the start of the beta.

Only thing I am not sure of is the un-installing part if the packages folder is empty. You know when you are finished with a particular mod sometime in the future.

Good question. I personally haven't installed much content but this file WILL get messy eventually.

You don't even need the Packages folder. I store and install everything from my 2nd hard drive from folders called: "ISI Mods", "User Mods", "User Tracks", etc... The Packages folder has been empty since install.

My game is installed using the default paths, I just use the mod manager to point to my mod folders instead of the Packages folder.

Once you've installed your mods, they are installed. The game does not check these "install" folders on start up. You definitely do not need to keep the anything in the Packages folder.

Okay buddha I understand that, I knew the game didnt need them but if lets say next week a new patch is released I had problems last time as I emptied my folder where I stored everything as I dont have lots of spare space, then I ran into problems as the vmods had to be updated and in the end I had to uninstall the whole game and start a fresh

I just deleted the contents of my packages folder. Mods are still installed, seems safe to do so.

Can you try to do an uninstall just to see what happens when the packages folder is empty?

You can install packages from anywhere so they never have to actually be in rF2.

ie: Change the packages folder path in Manage Mods beforehand.

Mine are in DRIVE:\SIM PATCHES\RFACTOR2\PACKAGES on cheaper sata.

yes its "safe" for now if you a non-modder, non-server install. You can always re download them if you need them.

What concerns are there for a modder or server?
