IMSA statement in last few minutes: "Memo Gidley, underwent surgical procedures on both his left arm and left leg at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Florida. Gidley also has an unstable fracture in his back which will require additional surgery before he can be released from the hospital. "Matteo Malucelli, remained at Halifax Health overnight for further evaluation. He continues to rest comfortably. An update on his condition will be provided later today."

I just watched the replay of that part of the race. Both cars were obliterated. I'm surprised Gidley wasn't killed on the spot, that was a hell of a crash. I hope he's OK and racing again soon.

Gidley had to be cut out of the car- that's why the race was red flagged for 84 minutes. I've never seen a race where someone had to be cut out of a car. wow

Horrifying accident, extremely glad to see Memo not very seriously hurt and hope he makes a full recovery. Waiting for news was an extremely tense time, and I thought whatever curse 2013 had on it was stretching into 2014 as well! Probably not the place for it, but I still can't believe John Dagys tweeting pics of thescene as we were still waiting to see if Memo was even still alive. I wonder what kind of response he'll get next time he wanders into the Gainsco pits looking for some soundbites?
