In league races, I like recon lap and drive to the starting grid. For rFactor I created a 2D texture with a number girl, waiting for the drivers .... They dissappeared about 1 min before formation lap/ race start, because they were substituted by an invisible/uncollidable texture. The timing was not exact and depended on the CPU cycles. So the girl did not disappear intime on every computer. View attachment 4048 With rF2 we have animated 3D people in pitlane and as stewards ... Will it be possible to create this or even more grid stuff, tyre stacks etc. on the grid now?
Actually the only rig using starting procedures is the starterworker with the chequered flag. I don't know if someday we'll be able to produce dedicated rigs linked to starting procedures but I guess a completed girl animation, leaving the grid just before the start, should be realized just from ISI because you have to write some code to link the animation to the race procedure...
hmm,, there is a pre-start function for the flag marshal. It might be possible to have characters standing around the grid when you go into pre-start. Then just not include anything for the rest of the marshal functions so they should just disappear after pre-start. Set the animation frames to fill up only 20 seconds or so for the duration of the prestart -~5 seconds so they would disappear before the actual start. If you included them in the pitbox instance they would load up on a per player basis. Just a theory ^^ but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Gaucho's creation is just a texture, and it's for rfactor (the first) ;-) In fact, he is asking about the possibility of this kind of animation being included in game (and about somebody creating it) byyyyyyyyyye PS: good idea, even if not animated, could be static 3D modeled characters
I experimented with 3DSimEd V.3.0 beta, but looks like some .gmt files (including startbox.gmt) will not open. I don´t own 3DSmax, so please someone with more knowledge and the right tools may give it a try ?

There is an animated lollypop man in the pitlane of the oval track in DEV MODE. I wonder, why he is not part of the complete F1 pitcrew existing there. He disappears when I drive near to him. How the animation is triggered ? Seems an perpetuos repetition. Would be nice to include this kind to release the car after pitstop. Anyone is working on that??
ok, I tried to put someone into the grid. The historic marshal appears now in the gridmarker.gmt (included in /scripts/pits.mas), which is used in DEV MOD to show the starting place in the grid. Startbox.gmt seems not to be used by DEV MOD. View attachment 4075 BUT ... he disappears with the marker when the car is positioned corretly. Someone has an idea how to keep him for a while ....???? In the normal (CORE) game, I can´t modify the pits.mas file because this will corrupt the checksum in .mft file and the game does not start.
Hi Thanks for the link, its good Idea to introduce Grid Girls. May be they could be integrated in startlight texture Animationssequence for the red light. (Only a trick, until the 3d grid girls are done) could be nice Leonardo
Well, F1 Challenge has moving grid girls and moving pit crews, the only thing that F1C doesn't have is moving marshals. So, it should be possible for ISI to put them back into rF2 now.
One thing I need is a better pit stall indicator. That flashing red rectangle and arrow is tough to see when trying to adjust the HUD, and all the other things that catch your eye as one pulls into the pits. The league I race in, I have had trouble more then once because I missed the stall! Would be great to have something a bit more solid looking, like a person standing there. Doesn't have to be animated, just easier to see!
