not able to connect to a server that i am hosting

    I can not connect to a server that i am hosting. also i can not can not connect to one that my brother host. do i have to open any ports on my router?

    Yes.

    Open the multiplayer.ini file in your data dir to see the port numbers.

    mostly in
    c:\documents and settings\username\rfactor2\player\settings

    yea you must open right ports in your router when you wanna host server servers ,,
    how do i see what ports i shall open ?
    best way is download http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html a small program called cports start your server then start cports and see what ports your server host/use then open this ports in your router update
    close the server and start again and test join your server ;)

    You have to open ports on the router and also in the Windows firewall. If opening those doesn't help, you can also set up your router to be a DMZ server. Make sure you read up online the risks of enabling that option.

    Thanks guys for the help. I am going to fool around with the port to see if i can get it to work.

    ISI can't say which ports are in your multiplayer.ini. Just open it, and see for yourself. There is lots of explaining text in it, including the ranges you can select, and which you can and can't alter.
