AMD with a driver other than 22.5.1 maybe?

Runtimes? (the ones included in the game folder, and the VC2015/17/... ones)

Check all the other 'won't start'/'crash to desktop' threads. And give more info, like your new system specs.

Add the specs of your new system so others can help out better. :)

ok i have had a search on the forum - there is a lot of talk about 22.5.1 - is this a graphics card driver ? or a motherboard driver ? where do you get it ?

    specs
    Win 11 64 bit
    AMD Ryzen 5 4500 6 core processor
    16 GB ram
    ssd drive

i have deleted contents of cbash and shaders folders

    any help greatly appreciated

The driver is for AMD graphics cards but you have a RTX3060 so that should not cause your problem.
Maybe a corrupted file, you could verify the files through steam to be sure.

Yes the v22.5.1 is a graphic card driver but only for AMD/Radeon video cards. Your GeForce should not have the same problems that AMD users are suffering from. Forget Dev mode for now. Do some work in Steam first,
First ensure you are on the main release, you do that by right clicking on rFactor 2 then choosing Properties then choosing Betas. Click on NONE. If you are not using None already, there will be a small download. Then verify the files, to do that you go to the Steam Library and right click on rFactor 2. then choose Properties then choose Local Files. From there you can click on Verify the Integrity of the game files. This has two stages, a rather quick validation, but then you will see rFactor 2 is busy for a minute or more after that. Once that is done you can load rF2.
Next, WHENEVER you have problems, always use a standard rFactor2 car & track to test. It's even best to choose a free car to eliminate problems with any DLC you may have purchased. So try Portland or Zandvoort, two good free tracks that have all the current rF2 graphic tech. Then choose a simple car like the Tatuus open wheel. (free!) Choose just one opponent and try to load.
Because you have a new computer, there are other things to possibly check, but since you have been able to at least load the rF2 menus, I don't think we'll worry about those for now.

thank you for your help :)

i have verified the files and also tried a std car - track combo

i used zandvort and the tatuus 3.5

again gets to 80% and crashes

    grrrrrrrrrrrr

There used to be the ability to create a log file, don't know if that is stil possible because that would maybe give a pointer as to what is causing the crash during the loading process.

Is it crashing to desktop or are you aborting the loading yourself?

I've seen crashes at 80% related to the audio device. Need a default device selected in windows. Create a trace file and attach it here.

HI Lazza - you were right !

i had to plug some speaker in and make them play before RF2 would work

if i tried to load RF2 before the speakers had been used there was still a crash at 80%

its a brand new pc and the monitor I am currently using has no sound - windows does some weird things !

thank you everyone for your help - it was nice to feel i was not on my own with the problem :)

You need to update outdated drivers on your pc.

There have been LOTS of reasons why rF2 either doesn't start or crashes or whatnot, but having speakers being required to be plugged in? That is a new one for me. Glad you discovered the problem.

    the problem is BACK !!!!!!!

this time it gets to 100% and then it crashes back to desktop

I can confirm that the sound is working

any suggestions what to do next ?

i have deleted all workshop items and uninstalled and re intalled RF2

really getting the hump with this

(i did try to install a track map plugin if that is related)

Yes, the plugin is why it crashes.

with the plugin removed and a fresh install it still crashed

I have reloaded the graphics drivers and set the card to auto configure / auto tune

so far its working again with low strain on the gpu

it was previously running with max detail on all all graphics setting just fine

i will turn them up slowly one at a time to see if its related

is there a track map plugin that definitively works ?
