new HDR and impressions

Nothing substantially has changed to the core itself, no. It would have been possible to create a similar look in the past, though it would have required a lot of tweaking to the profile; and then do it all again for each and every single track. And in theory you would have had to do it all again if you changed the race date in the track's GDB (there is no option to change date right now). Automation will always adapt :) .

Transitions from sun to moon 'light' are always going to be tricky. If anything, further tweaking to Automation should make it possible to reduce the back/forth a bit, but I'm not sure there is a simple and definitive fix. Tweaking it for overcast/rain should be easier, but will require time and fine-tuning.
Clouds were not touched. It's just a (positive) side-effect :) .

Nice job ISI, I have always felt that everything was a little flat but with the new automated HDR things seem to have more pop. I never really played with any HDR profiles before so I am especially appreciative that you have made a system that "just works" automatically all the time at all the tracks, I'm sure that you will make further improvements but what I see is great, I am especially noticing the differences in-car for the Clio, as a non-graphics guy I think it is a big step forward. Thanks

Important to say the flashing red sun light in the small range of time between night and day may be related to a gap between the main terrain and the sun blocker, causing the sun light passing through the bottom of the scene.

Clockit, you're running latest drivers for your card? What card do you have? Perhaps do a clean install?

I don't know if this problem(maybe some settings messed up with build 382, maybe FXAA has something to do here, maybe choice of car which has a lot of black area?) is on my side or is even related to HDR profiles, but at Mills there is definitely everything to dark to me. The whole scene is so dull to me. I think there is definitely should not be so "dusk" feeling at 4:30 PM, regardless of the location right? Is like some grey filter are applied.

The sun is already low at 16:30PM for that place, so what you're seeing it's mostly correct.

The time of the day and the sun elevation are not a static function as they are different around the globe and along the year.

You get that at Sebring at 05.04/05 ...

I agree and i already know that, but i can't find above pictures quite right, is just to much. Like light has no power to go trough scene, or the material reflection(not only incar) is underpowered and don't react quite right on the amount of light.

Of course old contents would need a new art tuning pass to make everything looking properly with the automation. That's true.

Well I guess it's subjective, but to me the top picture looks better. For example the bridge text WWW.SILVERSTONE.CO.UK looks muddy on 382 but actually shines white as it's supposed to in 493. Same with grandstand roof in the second picture, on build 493 it actually looks like it reflects the sun while in 382 it looks muddy.
+1, for me the top screen on the comparison is better than the bottom one. Not tested yet in game.

Race time: 4:30 PM, automation profile

Your first screen is interesting to compare against this pre-release screen taken in 2010 or 2011. Both are quite good but I still miss the sun effect that was in the pre-release.

Can you please change resolution and then reloading the track? This looks like a shader issue on your installation/log.
I've tried all sorts of resolutions from 800x600 to 8064x1440 they all do the same. When it initially loads it looks like overbright HDR, then after a couple of flashes / changes it goes black.

Well I see many positive sides of new HDR and some downsides as well.

My take on this matter:
Since Silverstone was recently updated I thought that would be the best place to test new HDR. I think how it looks now around noon, morning or late afternoon is very very much improved. It looks more punchy and crisp without looking cheap. I like it. Didn't really test the day/night transition yet so no comment on that just yet. I was really curious how it looks like at night. Last HDR settings made night racing a bit tricky and distracting because of many oily black patches here and there, some very dark places all around the track (almost every track, ISI made tracks ofc). Now they are less noticeable. It is finally raceable at night! :) However I think those black/oily patches all over the screen are now replaced with overall grey-greyish feel. For example at Silverstone I tested both latest Camaro and Civic with headlights. It is now much much clearer outside and inside the car. I could easily call it very enjoyable. Then I started to see that my nearest surroundings are in many shades of grey. I really hope it's fixable becasue if it is then night racing will be my thing for the rest of the time :). Still I feel the need to say congratz becasue it has improved nonetheless. :) I loved how the cockpit in my civic looked like when AI followed me with headlights on. Must say... had grin on my face.

Gonna say some more later when I get some more time with it because my visit was shorter than I wanted it to be.

Grey is what you see at night outside of the light of the main beams - rod cells around the edge of the retina cannot discern colour, but they are more light sensitive than the cone cells towards the optic nerve which can discern colour but are much less sensitive to light and don't work properly at night. That's why when I come home late at night, with no flashlight, and fumble with my keys to try to find the lock I look to the side as the peripheral vision (rods) can pick up less light. :)

Try Sebring at night -- the bridges are illuminated beautifully and the new lighting engine makes it work great. Much more vivid and less dull than before.

Well I know. I mean greyish feel of everything around :) Not only near the headlight beam edges. It's like there's a very very light fog outside. Do you feel me now? ^^ Hehe :P

its been like that since i remember. I think i could get rid of it by setting HDR profile to none which has lower values for some HDR settings. Some values in HDR profile make it more apparent ,some less but its been like that for a very long time. Nothing new and related to automation.
