This will be the first time I have built a pc so need all comments appreciated. Thanks in advance...

The system will be for sim racing only - rFactor is the only pc sim I have been using so far and I can't see any reason that would change. It seems like that would help with choices (?).

Budget is ~800€ including monitor. As I understand it, 24" & 60Hz should be fine for monitor (?) and prices (in France) start around 175€ so I think I need to get the pc build to ~625€. At present, I'm at the following spec - and over budget - but not sure where is best to cut back. List below is for suppliers in Germany; the prices vary a bit in France but overall seems quite similar. I have total 743€ using amazon.fr and ldlc.com for starters.

Can anyone suggest where to cut back? I'm sure it's overkill in some areas but seems like most info out there is oriented towards games that are more demanding on the system than racing sims are, right?

I can't help you with that, but you shouldn't use a Single RAM Module, better use 2 4GB Modules, instead of 1 8GB Module.
    Or fill all available Slots.
That is recommended often, to get better Performance out of it.

    Just my remarks.

May be your CPU choice is not very future proof, Core I3 vs Core I5.
You can reduce costs by going to a 22" monitor, I use one and it is big enough for RF2.
    Cheers.

Any compromise you could come up with for a 970 or 4gb card, you should go for it. You're spending 200 Euros on something already obsolete. The i5 would help too. It sucks being over budget but if you can really improve the PC with $100 more than what you're on at the moment, it's a no-brainer.

If you already own a windows operating system you can use that and upgrade it to win 10 for free

Thanks for the comments, am updating build (and earning some more to increase the budget...). Will re-post when updated.

Save another 250EU ............and beg borrow steal a OS. :p

    http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/tcRkFT

With that you will run 1920 res ( 24" Monitor ) any game how it is supposed to be played, no overclocking needed.

Mind you I would shop where they have Intel 6600, H170 Gaming Motherboard and DDR4-2133

I can't seem to find them there and they will cost barely more for latest gen.
