Hi all
This is not a new issue, but I just want to add some pressure.
Whenever I'm on a multiplayer online race session and some human opponent player leaves the server, I get a small freeze, just a few tenths of a second, as the message comes saying «... left the race... car towed to the garage...».
In a race, that can lead to various situation, like crashing while turning, loosing a position you just took from an opponent, or even ending up occupying the same position on track as the other guy and we both end up in the air and crashing.
I'm on Win7 on a i7 4770, 3.4GHz, with 8MB RAM, GTX980, SSD with plenty left. I'm not running graphics on full. I only run rFactor2. I stop updates from browsers, java, adobe, etc... No anti-viruses. I disconnect all unused peripherals like printers and external HDDs. I don't use any plugins (apart from those that come with the lite installer). I have DL100/UL10 fiber to the router and gigabit ethernet. I make sure nobody else is using any other connected devices. I disable WIFI so neighbors can't mess with the router. I've tried running with and without replays on. I've tried fullscreen, borderless and windowed.
And it's not just me.
Other members from the community I'm with have reported the same behavior.
We have switched to different servers several times, always looking for the best machine and connection speed for the best price. Now, we're on a Xeon E3-1230, 3.2GHz, 16MB RAM, 1Gbps connection (up&dn). We stop other dedicated servers, disable ftp access and throttle down http access. CPU and networking graphs are always near 1% and don't show peaks! Ping times are on the 50ms.
I think I've done enough to rule out any other cause on my end.
We think we've done enough on the server's end.
I truly believe the devs should take a look at that piece of code, see what's going on and optimize it.
Cheers,
Rui Ferreira
