Merging scenes in 3dsMax problem

    I am trying to merge another scene with my current scene in 3dsMax - some objects exported from my track in rFactor.

    I first tried to follow the normal route by using the gmt-Importer but I get a script error, something about unknown name so I assume there are name conflicts with the materials. I then imported it to a new max scene and saved it. Then I import it into the current scene by doing a merge of the 2 max scenes. It merges just fine and I can see the objects in the scene but I have no idea where the materials has gone on the materials editor. Before I merged the scenes, I renamed the Multi-SubObject to MultiMaterial2 and renamed all material with a prefix, thinking it would show up on the second sphere on the Material editor.

    What am I doing wrong or what should I be doing?

    Select an empty material ball and try using "Pick Material from Object" :) .

    Late on a Sunday night -should rather go watch a movie - spend like 20 hours this weekend on track building...my wife thinks she is divorced :)
