Make Historic F3's Great Again!

If there was just one event I wish I could attend it would be Goodwood. Shouldn't be allowed to stick all the good stuff across the other side of the world.

BB disappeared before the race finished so I picked this week's track. Sturup, think I raced here once before (Lada's I think) but have no memory of it. Had a quick look and I'll apologise now for the lack of brake markers. Could be tricky.

Well! That was sure unexpected!

Joined on a whim on Saturday night not knowing which car/track was on the server. Saw the Lada and thought that would be fun, then saw Solitude which filled me with dread! Especially as I remembered the horrendous third sector from racing it years ago in rF1. Despite this, I somehow managed to hook up with the car (drives a lot like my Cortina) and after a couple of laps the track layout came back to me!

I know it's only a bit of fun, but this was my first online race win since stepping away from sim racing 5 years ago, and my first win in VR!

EDIT: I actually haven't driven the track since 1974! :D (or maybe about 12 years ago!):
(skip to 13:06 for the final battle)

Hello fello racers,

I beleive it was in Febuary of 2012, I started the F3 Fanatics!
I went through a handful of servers, the game was brandy new
and the gaming server companies, I contacted, didn't really seem to have a clue.

Two of them, in Italy, actually gave me servers to play with. Neither one worked, or did what I wanted a server to do. No desktop.

I saw the NRT adds when I'd enter to forums, so one day I decided to give them a call. They 'gave' me a server, with access to the desktop.
It worked! I became friends with Dave at NRT. He's the owner. He'd pop on the server and race a bit.

Without going into any details, Dave is not doing well, health wise.
He has given Paul and myself 1 to 2 months notice before he has to shut down NRT. It actually costs him money to let us play on his servers.

Paul has agreed to try to track down a server that gives us a 'destop', at a reasonable price, and carry on the F3 Fanatics!

All this being said, I started the F3 Fanatics on a server at my computer shop. And I'd be willing to start that up again, but can't garrantee the same awesome connections NRT offers.

Let me know how/what you guys think,

Bryan

I say go for it! Hoping it works out. Too much history to let it slip away.

It is sad that Dave (NRT) can no longer continue as I know from the numerous conversations I've had with him that it is something he has loved doing. His health has been worsening for a while and I know he has been running at a loss for some time but refused to shut down as he didn't want to leave us stranded. His loyalty to customers is 1st rate and his services offered are of the same standard.
Some time ago we lost touch with Dave for a while and was unsure of the future of the server, I reached out to COLO (who physically maintain the servers for Dave) and they assured me they could hook us up in the future if needed. I will start emailing them today to work things out.
Keep everyone posted.
Paul

Just realised it was you mate. LOL Been so long I didn't register the name with this one. Great to see you.
Still pull out a certain car of yours for a spin from time to time. The one you sent me to test quite a while ago.

Howdy all!

Hope you are all doing well out there!

For the next few weeks, the F3 Fanatics server will be driving vehicles quite different from the F3s we love so much.
This weekend we are serving up Sparks and EVEs, but not Formula 3 cars, but Formula 1s!

The hope here is by offering up some cars a little tougher to drive than the vernerable F3s. to see if that will work to
get the roster numbers back to where they were, some years ago.

If anyone has any suggestions, pass them along!

Bryan

Howdy Boys and Girls,

This weekend, the F3 Fanatics! server will be running Brabham BT-20s at Sandevorde, circa 1965. I personally haven't run this track since GPL days! Fun!

I hope to see you guys and gals there on Saturday, Nov. 8Th 3PM Phoenix time.

Regards,

Bryan

Oh, the dreaded mis-shift on the first lap going onto the main straight! Stupid tendency to try putting it in first while going for third gear and then fumble around in neutral trying to find the gate. Cookie sailed past me right afterwards and then Bryan is late on the brakes at the end of the straight going into Tarzanbocht, shoots by, but doesn't make the turn.

Shortly afterwards, I do more shifter shenanigans and nearly everybody goes by while I'm pointed the wrong direction. Twice. Won't bother mentioning the next incident... sheesh, you'd think I was a rookie!

Hiya Guys and Gals,

Running a 70's F1 mod that seems to be popular, I've been seeing a few people in there during weeknights (Arizona Time).

I don't know how accurate these cars are... Don't really care. They're fun!

We're running Watkins Glen with the Boot, this weekend.

Hope to see you all there!

Bryan

Too quiet here...

This is the last weekend with ChiefWiggum's 70's F1 cars. Fun, but it's time for them to move on.

Next weekend, not this weekend, but next weekend's cars will be the venernable F3s! YAY!

As soon as I decide on a track, you all will be the second to know, me being the first...

Don't be a stranger, don't be shy... If there is some combo you've wanted to run online, let me know.

See Ya's on the track!
