I found these images related to the Porsche 904/8 Bergspyder another interesting link: https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/search/longford
the Timmy Mayer hump (he talks about) is actually about where he's standing in the video, but it wasn't built up like a flood barrier back then (but still higher than it is in '67 - they shaved it down after Mayer's crash in '64). So the accident and trees he talks about are actually on the pub side of the hump, but the driver's left of the road. If you check in-sim you'll see the stone memorial to him by the fence on the left of the road. The stone is now on display in the pub.
A longer version of the v1.00 Ambient promo video, for the Longford Motorama this weekend. There is no new version of the track at the moment, just a new/old video. Longford will be exhibited Fri,Sat,Sun at the Motorama in Longford Town Hall, with two cockpits and a dread of viruses. Disposable gloves and a limited supply of sanitiser will literally be on-hand, and wheels/shifters will be wiped down regularly. https://www.facebook.com/Longford.Motorama (the "Full Motion" simulator is not the Longford simulator - The Longford/rF2 setup will be two static wheel/pedal frames with monitors) And hey, a few photos have popped up on the fb page of Historic Racing Car Club of Tasmania. Once there was a modified Ferrari P4 in Tasmania, and with Chris Amon aboard it set Longford's all time lap record of 2:12.6 in 1968, the last year of the Longford circuit. It was #21 at Le Mans 1967, finishing 2nd. It then had the roof cut back for the rest of the season, and removed entirely for a stint in CanAm before coming for a season in Australia.
Hope you have a great weekend. Have to give us a bit more of a heads up next year so I can plan some holidays and come down. We were in Tassie last year (Nov) and loved it so we're looking forward to another visit to the Apple Isle. Would be nice to come and see the track and the Motorama.
Wow, I'm just looking at some footage from the old show Gasolene. (gets interesting from 2:38) I'll have to put this event on my bucket list. SS
It's not the same event these days. Different organisers, and no actual driving due to insurance and such apparently. And its based in the town (left at the pub), rather than up at the Flying Mile. But you can still check out the remains of the circuit of course. But back at those events in 2011 and 2012 I was on the balcony of the Shannon's Truck running rF1 Longford And I saw a factory 962 get unloaded from the Porsche truck, and the next day it was running down the Flying Mile
Here is a gallery of photos from the Motorama. Before the opening of the final day on Sunday I had a quick run around the real cars to make sure I got some photos because I was in the hall with the rF2/Longford setup for the rest of the event. Thanks to everyone who came up to the Hall for a look, and especially for having a drive these are from the album: The Penske Indycar is a nice link back to my first ventures into PC sim racing with the Papyrus Indy 500 game!
I've made a few videos in the past week for the upcoming update to the '67 Endurance mod. For reference, here are the pair that feature Longford. I experimented with super-8 film effects for some extra character. Two laps with a combo of '67 cars vs three '66 cars (number 1, 2, &5) I'm driving red 21, (with the headlights on). All the other cars are AI drivers. And here is a short drive-by clip of the same cars going under the Viaduct. In other Longford news, eventually I will be doing an update with the new materials/shaders etc, but not yet

The inaugural Longford Grand Prix Expo (GPX) scheduled in March 2023 has been cancelled... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01...po-cancelled-despite-taxpayer-funds/101880056
It has been a little while. In reference to the preceding post, following the cancellation of the GPX, the Motorama returned at very short notice to fill the void in 2023 with another enjoyable weekend. This year, 2024, the Motorama has moved to October 26th, 27th, and is being run entirely at Symmons Plains Raceway, only a few kilometers from Longford. https://www.motoramatas.com.au/ You may know Symmons Plains is an active race circuit, opened in the final years before Longford was closed. You may also know that I run a couple of modest sim rigs at the Motorama each year. This year will be the same. But different! With the huge support of the HRSC league, we're running an online sim event to tie-in with the Motorama! This will be a four-race festival, streamed/broadcast across two hours, featuring appropriate cars for Longford. And then we're doing it all again the next day! That is, two days of a two hour programme, each featuring four sprint races. The racing will be shown live on screen at the Motorama and on the internet, and you're welcome to join in! The packed 2h racing schedule for October 26 and 27 includes: Minis, 3 Laps. Cobras, 3 Laps. Minis vs Cobras Handicap race, 5 Laps, the Minis get almost an entire lap head-start. Open-wheels, 5 Laps, Brabham BT20 F1 + EVE F3 in the same race. Entries for the sim racing are open now to any interested drivers. Join in via HRSC's Discord server https://discord.gg/r2s4HAQqpC The event is based on the Motorama's Australian Eastern Daylight time (AEDT / UTC+11), so for Europeans it will be early morning, and for the Americas it will be evening/night of the previous day. If you're interested but it sounds like a struggle, you're more than welcome to just join in for one of the two days. Here are some handy timezone conversion charts. Daily free practice starts at 10am AEDT, The racing segment runs from 2pm-4pm AEDT, highlighted in green. A bigger event poster for the Motorama sim race event! I'm delighted to have drivers from Brabham Esports along to help celebrate the history of Longford in the Motorama sim event. Sir Jack Brabham won the Tasman Series race at Longford in 1967, and it's great that we can use sim technology to continue historic connections like those in the modern times Entries still open for the sim event on Saturday and Sunday (see previous post for more info) HRSC Discord invite to join the racing: https://discord.gg/r2s4HAQqpC
We had two successful days at the Motorama and with the online races. Thanks very much to everyone involved in the real-life Motorama at Symmons Plains, and all over the world in the sim races, including the drivers, spectators, broadcasters, and organisers The sim race broadcasts, Saturday and Sunday:
