You're all overthinking it.

Notice you can see the driver's hands in each shot? Sure, you always use hands to drive a car, basically (knees in more roomy cockpits aside), but what do you actually need your hands to drive?

@Lazza , you'll need to include a venue name so that we know this is a serious theory.

Once we're all done here I might see if I can post a poll to decide the most absurd/convoluted/abstract/marginally plausible correct and incorrect theories. Perhaps I'll make a genuine printable pdf certificate for the winners too :)

again, lettuce is not a clue, but apparently it has now become a metaphor, and possibly soon to be an over-used word relative to it's (un)importance to the puzzle
 
final guess because I,m confident I absolutely have it now..Peter Revson Jim Hall Jackie Oliver, or Peter Oliver for short :cool:
 
All of the racers so far prefer romaine lettuce over iceberg. Lazza, if I can download that exact .rfcmp, I will be your best friend.
