It's not a solution, it's a stupid work around that should not be needed.

I use crew chief, not asking this for me. Just something logical to be added.

    No problem listening them tho

Not every mod/track has "hooters" that one can hear.
Not sure if it is the mod or the track which is at fault here.
Watching the HUD for a clock to start is extremely annoying.
We start at the back so sometimes possible to see the lights in the distance ,and now with the halo in F1 mods, impossible !
This is a racing sim, starting lights should be a prio.
    However I do like Will's "hooters" though ! :D

Just a question, but can the last position at Le Mans see the start lights irl ?

well technically that should not matter, as Le Mans uses a rolling start. But I get your point, many tracks do not have clear sightlines to lights, nor the more common starting flag tower.

Watching the start lights for a light to go out is extremely annoying.
Doing the same task but looking at a different object to achieve the same result. ;)

Traditionally starting lights are in the middle of the screen, watching a HUD on the bottom right of the screen is definitely not efficient (or fast), not to mention having to change the HUD back to tyres in the heat of the battle.

Sebring looks beautiful. Respect the bumps! :D

Agreed. More detailed mechanical damages would be nice, especially with endurance or classic cars.

As far as I know not seeing the start light is a problem in rl, too on some tracks.
Also in Drag Racing it's hard to see the christmas tree because of the big blower. But that's another cup of tea ;)

Traditionaly start lights aren't in the middle of the drivers face. At some tracks they are hard to see, as it is in reality, so I don't know why stuff like that should be added artificialy to make something that tries to replicate reality, more comfy for some drivers. Watching the counter in the right low corner of the screen is more than some drivers can wish for in the real world. It is another advantage that you get when qualifying at the better end of the grid ;)

That I know but this is still a game.
Since the arrival of the F1 Halo, circuits have had to install lower and more start lights.
We have a private league where we run against AI as well and for fun (and the fact we cannot rely on the AI making equal quali times), we always start from the back alternating sides using grid.ini.
It is after all a game (which we take real seriously too ! :D)
I am still curious why you can hear the start claxon on some circuits and not on others.
    Anyone know this ?

rF2 fan: I am a purist and I want rFactor 2 to be as realistic as possible...

Also rF2 fan: I want big bright fake red start lights on the screen...

    more like
rF2 fan: "the game is so perfect S397 can call it done and move on"

I thought it was my sound settings but now that you mention it indeed I can listen this in some tracks but not in others. The joys of a 100% open modding platform I guess

Adding fake start lights like in Gran Tourismo is not a matter of polishing or perfecting the sim, where it needs the polish. It is a matter of adding a layer of information that isn't available to real drivers ;)

The starting lights in the screen is not realistic, but a cant seen the lights from the 4th line. Not perfect some tracks. Very pale lights.. :(

I'm not a fan of big start lights in the middle of the screen, it looks like an arcade game. But having lights only where they really are, when a lot of players don't have the resolution or head movement available to help them see it, isn't very good either (higher FOV can make distant start lights difficult to make out, while low FOV can put close lights in a position where you can't see them without head movement). The laptimer workaround does work, but so would small lights in the corner of the screen. That wouldn't be intrusive or arcadish, and while it might not be ideal to look in the corner (as you do with the laptimer HUD, albeit also needing to have the HUD and have it on the correct MFD page) it would be some reflection of sometimes having to look in a strange spot to see the start lights in real life.
