For one we are adding a search function to all places where you select something from a potentially long list of things, such as cars and tracks.

Thx for this. It was much needed.

a 20% is a bit optimistic for me, in my system is more than 50%.

    @Marcel Offermans

To provide concrete data, I recorded 3 videos (recorded in 1080p but game resolution is 4K) in exact identical conditions except rain, with framerate and frametime graph displayed with RTSS. Note that due to recording software the video playback stutters more
than it did playing the game. But what's important is the framerate counter and frametime graph.

    - System: i8700K / GTX 1080 TI (with slight overclock) / latest Windows 10
    - Graphics: 4K with v-sync off to maximize GPU usage and show the variance
    - Silverstone / 16 Porsche GTE AIs / starting position 12

    The videos:

    1. No rain: http://bubblesoftapps/tmp/rF2/rF2_norain.mp4
    2. Rain (weather slot configured to ''Mostly cloudy & rain") with setting "Rain Drops" set to "Ultra": http://bubblesoftapps/tmp/rF2/rF2_rain_raindropsultra.mp4
    3. Rain (as above) with setting "Rain Drops" set to "Off": http://bubblesoftapps/tmp/rF2/rF2_rain_raindropsoff.mp4

Conclusion: video 2 shows well the performance hit. Disabling "Rain Drops" (Video 3) reduce the hit a bit but it is still important. Admitedly, this is a bit of the worse case scenario with lots of visible cars at once.

There is a very simple and foolproof method to start a race.
I am not calling this a temp solution because this is the method I have been using for a few years even if the lights are right in front of me.

While I'm sitting on the grid waiting to start, I bring up the "Standard Display" on the HUD.
    GRAB_019.jpg
Then I watch the timer in the chat box get to around 2 or 3 seconds then go back and watch the Standard Display.
I listen for the honking horn countdown and as soon as numbers appear in the Standard Display, game on!.

Doesn't matter if one use this and the rest of the grid does not.
personally I rarely miss a start even without the lights because I check the counter, but it's useless if many other guys miss it.

I must admit Will, I get a bit tired of hearing people say they can't see the lights while we are on the grid.
I tell them to watch their timing display and of coarse most of the time they don't.
Then we do race 2, half an hour later, and it happens all over again! o_O

I watch the clock, but it's not the best. In some tracks, the starting lights are invisible. :(

Then alert the others in your league to the above solution, let they don't use it that's their loss at race start. It's a quick and simple way to see when to go Green, if anything the exact same as a row of starting lights.

I 100% agree with huge non optimized rain performance.

But NEVER use the setting "ultra" for raindrops, NEVER.
    Put high.
And you will never see any visual difference. Just an advice.

But again again again, the worst of the worst non optimized "parameter" in RF2 is : AI.
    Incredibly bad optimization.
I "cross my fingers" so that S397 considers this problem as serious.

Why do you need AI? Rfactor 2 is a multiplayer simulator. Mainly
I have never competed offline. :)

Why do you bother online if there is AI already in game? :)

Sigh. I can't believe I'm replying to this... but not everyone has internet access adequate for being online-only. Some of us are on satellite connections with 800 mS ping and some of us have data caps (typically cellular connections where we're beyond the reach of cable) that mean we can't do more than, say, a dozen one-hour online sessions per month.

I live in Japan. Australian leagues have races when I'm getting my kids ready for bed. European leagues when I'm in bed. US leagues when I'm at work.

    Everyone does what he wants.

You do not have to impose your way of playing. It's simply a lack of intelligence.

And my connection is 12 MO seconds constant, fiber optic ...... pffff

The funny thing is, I do race online, but only in iracing, as it's the only sim that I can find decent races in my 10pm-12am japan time slot.

BUT, can you guess when iracing does server maintenance? Right! 10pm-12am japan time. Thankfully it's not every night, but it's immensely frustrating.

Sounds as though new UI is very close if “final” tweeks are happening
