I'll comment the DX11 when I can try it (I'm looking for an overall better performance, more than visuals), but there's one thing I can fairly say:

THAT UI IS PURE PORN! Wonderful job and thank you.

The visuals are looking great, as does the new UI. I really can't wait to try all this out.

I bought a new GPU yesterday, an MSI RX480 8 gig, mainly to improve Rfactor 2, as well as sim racing in general.
I can pretty much max out the graphics at 1080p on my single screen running at around 50 fps. I'm guessing my somewhat lacklustre FX6300 CPU is probably holding things back a little.
Will the DX11 update help with this, or would you recommend a last upgrade on this PC, to an FX8350?
I don't want to spend on big upgrades until the whole Intel/AMD situation settles.

It is very pretty but I'm not really impressed by the comparison Nola dx9 vs dx11 it looks just an addition of hdr no?
Or nola even in dx9 is really pretty? No aliasing in sight and that I am to the angel! very good :)
    The asphalt is very beautiful

    good job!

Good read, I'll pick out some points of interest:

VR - "The second development stage will delve deeper into the environmental capabilities of the VR experience". I'm quite intrigued by what this means, could it be the Handsets being used to switch buttons? Or the Headset itself with a "look to push" Arrow/Icon? Either way sounds exciting!

DX11 - Screenshots look good, proof is always in the pudding though as always with anything Graphics related.

UI Update - That Sebring screenshot is great, loving the Live Trackmap and wealth of information on the right hand side (I want to click the Graph tab :D), UI is looking very good.

Radio Communication - Now a Question for @Marcel Offermans or anyone at S397, is this your own implementation? Or are you working with @mr_belowski and his quite brilliant 'Crew Chief' App? Thanks :)

Or, can a spectator become your personal or team crew chief with some pit and car control?

Looks as if things are heading in a good direction. Due to the improvement to the shadow system theres alot more depth to the sim and it looks more vibrant compared to the current system wich should please a lot of people complaining about the dull look of rF2. Something that I would like to get some info on, is how the sim looks with DX11 in night lightning conditions, especialy the under cars shadows, reflections at night time and improvements to the headlights as that's been the weakest part so far. Maybe we can see a screenshot? :)

Looking forward to the new track and everything else in store. UI looks good, but I will judge it when I use it as functionality is more important. On a last note: Are there any information regarding old licenses and how likely it is, that we will see them one day: I am especialy thinking about the Reynard and the Eagle as those cars would be a total no brainer with the exisitng oval and historic content from both official side and from the community.

Your frame rate sounds a bit low for an RX480 @ 1080p, but I doubt it's the CPU. rF2 frame rate is heavily GPU bound. It only becomes CPU bound in situations where you add a lot of AI and risk the physics running out of realtime. In my experience CPU power is only needed to keep the physics+FFB thread running real-time, and even my 5 year old Intel can do that. If you want to update, you should absolutely not buy anything else from AMD than a Ryzen CPU. The FX series is much behind even 4 year old Intels and rF2 doesn't benefit much from anything more than two cores anyway.

The screenshots are a big improvement from the ones in the previous roadmap, good progress :).

Thanks for the kind words :). I've had no contact from s397 regarding Crew Chief. I'd be happy to discuss it with them - I expect they've all had their heads down working hard on these exciting updates, and crew chief for rf2 has only been out a couple of weeks (there's a massive update for crew chief in testing now).

I'd be surprised if s397 haven't been working on their radio messages for a while - the existing rf2 ones are pretty awful

I saw in the UI screenshot, a VEC event totally integrated with rFactor2. My goodness, we will have an iRacing made only with Leagues.

im rong or does it sound like we won t see a multiplayer like iracing ? It would be good to know if we will get a safty/skillrating because if not i would not waste my time anymore to wait for vr and rf 2. " Details will be announced in the coming months. Our main focus is to create feature rich mechanics that provide a challenge for new drivers and seasoned sim racing veterans alike." i don t understand what they mean with this

Based on january roadmap update, we will have a "career progression" based system. The different is that rf2 will not have official events, only events created by leagues and players, like the old race2play.

Very good to hear the progress, especially with DX11 and the UI.
A few things I'd like to ask in relation to the future updates and possible future updates.

DX11 - The pictures are looking nice in some conditions, the new sky system is really making a big difference for me and will when racing, it makes the game come alive. I would like to know though how the night time looks in the update as right now rF2 at night is almost unusable, the tracks that do have night working - there are almost zero reflections at night and it just doesnt look natural at all. Hopefully this is looked at with DX11.

Another thing outside of what was said and what I feel really lacks in rF2 is the wet weather system. I have tried using the weather tool plugin that has been made very well but the actual mechanics of the game and the fact that the real road is linked to the wetness of the track just doesnt work properly. I actually feel like the rFactor 1 RFE weather works better than the current options with rF2 so hopefully that can be looked at in the future.

Also with the radio system, which is a refreshing addition does that enable you to speak to other drivers or is it just client side like the spotter in iRacing?

Looking forward to seeing future developments.
    :)

I have seen cars with it in the past, so I don't THINK it has to do with it. I believe it had to do with the materials a car was set to. So a surface is either always 'chrome', or allways not. (correct me if I'm wrong ;) )

I don't think we ever said that, the part about not having official events.
