is this how realroad is supost to look

    If your talking about the mirage effect, yes that's normal.

    yes that is what i was looking at now, i have to figure out the marbles layer how that works or what i have to do. i know there is a tutorial for it a video tutorial but for the life of me i get lost as he explains how to do the spline modeling. i have used max to model but not spline modeling or using the deformers that are used. also adding the textures to the race groove mapping the right channels to it. i am learning but its a slow process

    I think the mirage effect is the result of Road Reflection effect. Real Road effects will visually appear after two laps and usually they are most visible in corners. Try to drive around your track for several laps, and you'll see in corners, them marbles progressively appear.

    that part of real road i dont have in effect yet the marbles are attached to my understand a separate gmt for the racegoove not sure how to spline map it

    They are not a separate gmt, they're just a different material stage.
    If you have a recent version of 3ds max (since 9?) it has built-in spline mapping that works and for which you should be able to find a tutorial through your search engine of choice. That's how I found and learned to do it.
