I have the same problem as Bjorn..I'll try the latest reply, I think I may have mistaken that for a typo.

It's super convenient, isn't it, TPG? :) So much easier than what you're used to.

I'd just like to say, I migrated my rF2 to Steam a few days ago. Never ever used Steam before but it was straightforward to register there and get rF2 up and running. The biggest problem so far was that I couldn't get a few items of ISI content to uninstall even after unsubscribing. I finally figured out that I'd need to unsubscribe from the "RaceEvents" item so that the RaceEvents referencing the cars I don't want could be removed.

In truth, if non-Steam updates were not being discontinued I probably wouldn't have bothered moving to Steam - but I don't have a problem with it. In fact I've also moved my rF1 over and plan to do the same with RogSys when the time comes.

I think it's a fair point that not everyone is familiar with DOS style commands. Marcel's guide could be a little more verbose in that regard.

Considering rF2 goal is to be a base for mods does not make sense to force people to stay with mods they won't use.

Marcel isn't saying the current situation is ideal, but it's better than new users installing a game and wondering why the cars and tracks 'don't work'.

After finally getting up and running on Steam. Can we get all the ISI content on there ? Also some form of lite install for the client is required. If this is already possible please post step by step instructions.

ok next thing help. recently went to steam ironing out issues as I go. At first I could not get rfactor2 to stop running I saw a post saying check force 32 bit and it will stop running yea it worked. Now if I uncheck force 32bit I get a message that says I can only start the game with rfactor launcher application, isn't that what I am doing?? HELP

You're better off continuing to post in this thread, it's easier for others (and ISI) to try and work it out when the whole thread is dedicated to the issue.

One question I can't find in this topic is: do I have to register/make an account at steam first?

Yes, you need a steam account set up to hold the rF2 game within that steam accounts library...

I'm sorry for my English but it is not my native language
I could have done it but following marcels instructions "by half"
what he does not say Marcel is that it is necessary to execute the file steamcmd.exe

I have done the following thing:

1.- Create a new folder on your system for SteamCMD, for example C:\Racing\SteamCMD.
2.- Put SteamCMD.exe from the archive you downloaded in that folder.
3.- double click in steamcmd.exe (to execute it)
to hope that it should end, it will be known it when he sees in the cmd this: Steam>
    4.-closed cmd

    To continue Marcels instructions

.- Open a shell (Windows+R to run a command, and then type “CMD”).
.- Go to the folder you just created: cd \Racing\SteamCMD
    .- Run the following command:

    steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir ../rFactor2-Dedicated +app_update 400300 +quit

and it should already have everything so that his dedicated one works correctly

    1. Can I un-subscribe to all ISI workshop items?
    2. Can I delete the cache items in the rF2 folder?
    3. Is there negative impact of doing so?

    1. Yes. You can then reinstall them through the Launcher as you used to before Steam.
    2. No. They will just download again nest time you try to update.

I am in process of doing tests. I would like 3 separate installs. But not have to have 3x12 GB of cache files. (I also have all the cache files as rfcmp's from before Steam)

I'd totally accept this if rF2 was indeed focused on making it easier for new users.

You get the content included in every other Steam sim as well, there is no way to remove AC or pCars stock content at all while there is a way to unsubscribe with rF2. So if anything it's better implented than competitors.
