SOLVED Inconsistent FPS

I load up Lime Rock No chicanes with the flat6 offline. Just me no ai.

Click race and as the car idles I'm getting 184fps
Exit, add 1 ai, click race and at the same spot and it's down to 134fps
Exit, add 1 ai, and 105fps
Exit, add 1 ai, and it bottoms out at 98fps. I can add more ai now but it will stay at 98fps.
Remove 1 ai its still 98fps
Can keep on removing it will always stay at 98fps.
And when its just me left it's still 98fps. It never recovers.

It maybe be that it bottoms out at 98fps after the 2nd ai even, not the 3rd. In another test it did that. So that 105 reading might be when still settling. Or maybe it varies between 2/3 added ai to hit that bottom fps.

Rs game and it's back to 184fps naturally enough.

Build 1110. Game settings AA 3, high-high-high-high AF x4, everything else off.. Post effects off. No Sync. Aggressive threading off.

CPU i5 6600
Mobo gigabyte Z170-HD3 DDR3 (Z170 chipset, pcie 3.0)
GPU Asus Direct cu2 gtx770 2gb
RAM Corsair vengance pro 2133mhz 8gb (running at 1600mhz don't ask)
Win 7sp1, no VR. 1920x1200 60hz fullscreen mode.

nVidia drivers my trusty old 353.30 still

I upgraded from 1109-dx9 if that makes any difference.

You are getting the same fps as I am running an intel g4560/NVidia GTX 1050ti.
My settings are almost identical with the exception of I run 10 AI cars, X8, Post effects medium. The game is silky smooth for me.
I noticed a big improvement when I went into the settings box and changed GPU from "Auto" to my graphics card.

Yeah it seems it goes back to auto each time. So does mine but auto works fine for me, gives me the same performance as selecting the card manually.

I selected GPU manually and I run same test in OP again 184fps, 1 ai added and down to 109fps this time. Manual GPU select no change for me.

I getting core 1/2 loaded up about on average 50% each all the time. Loads changing greatly but always about 50% each. And cores 3,4 loaded up less so, doing more than I seen before. About 10-25% varying a lot too. I never seen that, always had core 1 loaded up. Seemed no different last night but then I was trying 'aggressive threading' last night. Or it's part of my problem.

Yes I am aware they are from 2015, I use them for dx9 for which they are great. Maybe that means they are not good for dx11 but drivers 2015 and dx11 2008 I believe so I figured dx11 support should be present. I like to install windows, install the drivers I want and then just leave it, then I know any subsequent weirdness is not because of endless driver changes. But perhaps not on this occasion.

If nobody can recreate this then I will update the drivers sure.

Has anybody managed to recreate this?

I tried recreate your test with megane in lime rock no chican
alone i have 120 fps
add 1 AI drops to 116
add 1 more AI drop to 113
add 1 more i go to 112
remove all AI i go back to 120 fps
for a moment fps minimum goes to 16 fps but it is the time that ai enters the game i think
it doesnt stay at 16 fps more that half second
i use 5 antialiasing and high PP
rest settings ingame are almost maxed

LLRP No chicane and Meganes sitting in garage in cockpit view, no virtual mirrors (normal mirrors on).
alone I have 137 fps
add 1 AI drops to 127
add 1 more AI drop to 116
add 1 more stays at 116
add 6 more (so 9 AI and me) 127 (this seemed odd so did it three times and all increased)
remove all AI back to 123 fps
17 6700K and 980Ti Card
Using the mid end GPU settings suggested here => https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/latest-release-1109-rain-effects-and-more.58675/

`when you add an AI have in mind that AI will not stay there but wil start doing hot laps
which means it is far from your vehicle
if you are at pits alone and you have already add 15 AI that are on track and doing laps it is logical that your fps will be high cause AI is not near you but far

Good news, I updated to nVidia drivers to 397.31 now and all is fine. I realised I had old drivers but I was reluctant to change them drivers. Now, same test as OP...

Just me click race, 210fps
Add 1 ai, 207fps
Add 1 ai, 205fps
Add 1 ai, 205fps
Add 1 ai, 204fps
Remove 1 ai, 206fps
Remove 1 ai, 207fps
Remove 1 ai, 207fps
Remove 1 ai, just me left, 208fps

Rs game, 212fps. These small gaps of like 2 fps is just normal I 'm sure. Main thing is I'm not getting the huge drops, and when I remove ai I get that fps back. Thanks a lot guys for your help, I guess I should have just updated drivers. Them 353.30 just worked so good for me on dx9.

Can't believe folks we're bringing the size of my 770's manhood into question, gees :D
