Hi all. Long term lurker etc etc. I've been enjoying rF2 for many months, it definitely has the highest simulation:emulation ratio of any title out there. Just recently I decided to try my hand at a bit of vehicle modding, the old fashioned way by examining and modifying existing content. I've successfully made a low-powered 6-speed Formula ISI car by playing with the F ISI .hdv, engine.ini and gear.ini for instance. I'm quite keen to try to turn the (IMHO) dreadful Formula 2 car into something I'd actually want to drive too, but in contrast to the F ISI, I'm unable to open the car.mas to access the .hdv etc. So my questions: 1 - is it just me who is unable to open certain .mas files? Is there an official way to access them? 2 - if they truly are locked down, then is there a rhyme or reason as to why certain vehicles are open and others not, given that rF2 is supposedly a modding platform? Any input would be appreciated.
1. No, they are encrypted for everyone. 2. Contracts. If ISI obtain data from a source, they may be given carte blanche access or confidential access. What you are doing is some of the most rewarding (fun) work outside of driving, so maybe try replacing the F2 with ASRs GP2 which from memory is fully open.
Sorry Gents! The thread was not titled as I'd expected: ASR FORMULA OW2 2K11 Beta Car Not exactly intuitive, but we get there in the end
