I'd hire a user-interface specialist and instruct him to "sort it out" with a modern HD replacement. I'd contact all my wonderful employees (including myself) and ask them to not only read the forums, but to occassionally post and engage in discussions. I'd tell them not to worry about taking time and resources away from developing rFactor 2, as the rFactor 2 community are well known for their undying patience and would never complain about the slowing rate of development. Ever. I'd put on my wellies, take a trip down to the wet weather department and say "Oi! Rain drops! Windscreen! Now!!" I'd buy Tim his own personal dark room in which he can lie down after a long day reading the rFactor 2 forum. "A whole day? It normally only takes a few minutes with you whining ****s!!" I'd use my considerable wealth (?) to buy a top of the range gaming PC and I'd drive my own sim. Once I finally stepped out of the cockpit I'd walk smugly back to my office and give myself a pat on the back. Then I'd remind myself that I should've already released those Karts I'm always going on about, Jeremy really should've had build 448 out the door by now, our customers are practically begging to feel Silverstone's new lumps and bumps, and is our updated Toban really not done yet? What the hell are we doing?? Then I'd go for a lie down in a dark room. Next to Tim. Feel free to add your own intentions, but please keep them either light hearted or constructively serious - nothing personal. Should you ever actually become the manager of ISI the last thing you want is a mutiny on your hands...
I'd have a 1995 CART chassis used to setup an awesome cockpit with a projector setup above it and spend my time in it. And contract a couple more dedicated folks to sort a few things out.... And enjoy snowboarding on a couple of weekdays since it's discounted compared to the weekend.
I'd put live webcams on all the coders with a queue system so we can directly, through a speaker, ask them questions and hear responses. Can't take the heat? Show up to work naked.
I'd hire caterer's to bring food and drinks, hire a bunch of strippers and party all night long with the dev team! Hey those guys have worked so hard, they deserve some fun!
If I was manager.... I would turn rfactor into its own OS where people would not even boot into windows to race, but boot into an rfactor interface from a stand alone dedicated hard drive.
Well, i would hire a new guy, responsible to link ISI with communities and modding teams. Helping communities creating ISI supported championships (possible a world wide one between the several present communities) and modding teams creating ISI supported cars and tracks (giving all the necessary knowledge and tools). Also, Bashar All Assad as fórum moderator wouldnt be out of question....
But...but...you would be the manager...and if you had to hire yourself, you wouldnt be the manager, as you already are hired...as the manager...hnnnngg
I'd hold my hands up & say " sorry guys " I'd then quickly stop fiddling with this clumsy clunky project & end work on rf2 Then start a new project using a completely new modern software engine but incorporate the best features of rf2 within it -physics/ffb With the skills of the IsI team ...unrestricted by a solid & solid software engine this will make a truly UNBEATABLE sim. ISI's name & reputation will be positivity re-established +offer a slight discount to current rf2 users (as compensation) to move over to the new project Try & get funding ( from the community ) for a laser scanned track pack that will cost extra ( maybe 4 to 8 tracks ) this will also be purchasable for anyone in the future too as an additional option ( but an irresistible one due to the quality due to laser scanning etc ) Host ( once project usable & some quality tracks available ) a couple of servers For which there would be a small annual fee to pay for May sound a tad drastic ....but it's what I'd do & as fast as poss. Gosh I feel better for posting this
This thread is like a meeting for people who have cravings for things, where they sit round in a circle & each take turn to say what's on their mind ..then sit down in a state of mild euphoria.. Great post & humour Forthright & Adrian.. certainly drastico, & your last line matey, just great
Just chassis? I'd leave the engine in there as well, so I could disable engine sound in rFactor... I guess Clio would sound weird with that Honda engine, but who cares EDIT: Oh, and I guess such rig would produce enough energy for entire house I'd just need to buy that racing fuel...
Nice idea. On my main PC rFactor 2 is pretty much the only thing I use, so it would save me some valuble time.
It blows my mind how so many people (especially in other sim forums, youtube, etc) don't like RFactor 2 physics, just truly blows my mind...I think wayyyy too many people just don't understand technique properly, and they also have no idea just how sensitive and "cut-throat" a vehicle becomes when you are really pushing the tyres and chassis to the limits. EDIT: Nevermind, I read the 2nd sentance in the above quote incorrectly. I thought you were implying that the RF2 physics had to be restarted from the ground up. Oops, my bad
