Hi, I am exploring editing rfactor And now I wanted to transplant physics hdv file from one car to another. I edited veh accordingly, created new mas. Created rfcmp file. Installed it. But when I loaded the car rfactor freezed. And everything was in some silver shades What did I do wrong?
Everything. You can not use only a hdv file from Mod a for Mod b. The hdv File interacts with other Physics Files, so you have to use the complete needed File Set of Mod a, or try to adapt the Files of Mod b, to get them working with the HDV File from Mod a. To get such a Transplantation working properly, you need to have a bit more than a Minimum of Knowledge about the rFactor File Structure and how the Files interact.
I have transplanted damage, gearbox, chassis and tyres too, and included them in newly created MAS file. But still to no avail. Is there perhaps some tutorial that I can read to understand it a bit more.
I can't tell for sure cause i never was into car modding. but https://www.studio-397.com/2016/05/hello-and-welcome-to-our-new-physics-development-blog/ is the first blog in a series of eight articles about car modding.. it is centered around the Brabham BT44b which is actually a car that got "migrated" from rF1 to rF2.
As Lazza said, begin installing the car in devmode. Take a look to the structure of the skipbarber in devmode.
On my Online Tools Site, i have the old ISI Site, that gives you some basic Information, that helps to better understand the Structure and other Things. Look here: Main Site Physics Glossary
Today I went step by step. I have managed to transplant engine. It works! Also I managed to transplant gearbox. It works too! But when I try to transplant drivetrain it fails. Hmmmm.... Any ideas what went wrong?
What exactly did you do and what happened (DevMode crashed or Car didn't move...)? BTW Do you let the DevMode create a Trace File? That helps a lot to identify Problems.
I would suggest to get fimilar with the DevMode (there are a lot of Threads about it here in the Forum and elsewhere in the Internet). It makes Things much easier and quicker when you create/edit Mods. You can also create a Trace File in Single Player Mode. Check this Thread: How to create a Trace File That Thread is for the use with the old UI or do you use the new UI? And again the Question: What exactly did you do? (when you did "transplant drivetrain")
I just copy-pasted the lines from one hvd file to another hdv file except the line that points to gearbox ini obviously. That stayed the same as the link to gearbox ini would not be valid anymore But the new gearbox ini works perfectly (before transplanting actual driveline from hdv). I used the same method of copy pasting txt from one gearbox ini into another gearbox ini
It's impossible to find out what went wrong, without to exactly know what you did. Just to say "I just copy-pasted the lines from one hvd file to another hdv" is not exactly enough. As i have said above, create a trace File. I'm pretty sure, that in your Case, the Problem is listed in the Trace. That saves a lot of Time, that we don't have to spend here with writing Post after Post.
