For some reason, autodownload is always very slow for me. Currently trying to autodownload ... speed is about 200 kB/s, while my internet is over 18Mb/s. Nothing else large is using my connection and other sites dropbox, racedepartment, Mega, etc. work fine. Any ideas on how to speed this up? Other people seem to autodownload with no problems. I'm confused. Update: About 10% into download, I got a TCP error ...
You can dload the mods on servers by using Steam. IT IS WAAAAY Faster. I only learned about this when the F3 Fanatics server was trying to test tracks. On the steam page that shows rFactor2, click on the view tab and then down to servers. ALL the servers on Steam can be shown here, the trick is to filter out all except the rF2 servers. Once you do that, you can find the server you are trying to join and click on it. It will begin a download of track and cars that fly by, as opposed to the turtlespeed you have been experiencing.
The server admin has to make sure he has a file hosting company that has fast DL speeds. I use a Dropbox pro account for file hosting so that the GetMod functionality works and is speedy. I believe the server can also host the file itself but that will eat up the bandwidth of the server itself and effect the pings of anyone on the server at the time fort the file transfer.
Thanks Dave and Depco, I'll see if going through Steam works. However, Depco, other ppl seem to be able to DL much faster, so it still seems that something is amiss for me. Dave, I only found two rFactor 2 servers on the Steam list and neither was the one I wanted. I'll watch for some later.
Thanks @davehenrie I never knew that. I tried it on two servers and for whatever reason only the track of one server got downloaded but at least it tells you the mod and track names and more importantly the versions needed.
