Hello I am interested in modifying some cameras for a mod but the only way I know is slow, complicated and not giving me the results I want. That way is just editing the .cam files but thats crazy because you have to loose 1 minute loading the track everytime you do a single change

So my question is if there is a program to just put the camera into the place I want and automatically save it in numbers. I could see something in dev mode but I don't really know anything about how to do it. You know, I just want to develop the cameras moving the mouse or pressing keys and then doing a single click to save it as I can do in other simulators like Assetto

    Thanks

I guess you have the track in dev mode.
    Click on the “cam editor”.

This video is for rF1: but it’s similar in rF2.
Go to 3:45 in the video.

This is another department rF2 needs attention, replays are important to some people and usually cameras are bad in rF2, that's a fact. I've seen anyway some tracks with great cameras, some shake, giving it real look, taking car out of center, like in iRacing.

More cameras (static, dynamic) are needed!

Create onboard cams like said in the above post. When you press save, a file will be created called cams.cfg in rFactor 2\ModDev\UserData\player. There's your cameras.

I tried to do it through dev mode options but I don't understeand how it works. I want to create car cameras, so I think it should be "Onboard Cam". When I click into create new camera or into edit the current camera, it does nothing, I click in the numbers and try to change them but they are frozen, they don't want to change. Please I need help :(

You'll need to set buttons to move forwards and backwards. Then press toggle fly, move to the spot, and press new camera, onboard. If you don't like it, you should be able to drag your mouse over it and delete.

I set the buttons into move forwards, backwards, left, right, up and down and more or less I understood the way to create the camera.

But now, I have another problem and it is that the movements when I press those keys are very very sensible so its almost impossible to make a proper cam and also I would like to know how to change the FOV.

    Please :(

It's literally the first setting in the camera file.

Yeah I know but I was asking if I can do it in-game.
Anyway, Is it possible to have less sensible movements when pressing backward, forward, etc? Pressing the key during less than a second moves the camera out of the car. Thanks.

Do cam move slowly. Just move forward.

This is what I am doing:

1 - Look into a Base Cam pressing Insert, Start, DEL... (Swingman External or Onboard001 TV Cam for example)
2 - Click en Toggle Fly.
3 - Pressing keys assigned to Cam Move Forward, Can Move Backward, Can Move Left / Right and Can Move Up / Down = Too much sensitive and impossible to properly put it in the place I want.
4 - Go to New Camera / Onboard.
5 - Pressing ESC and clicking Yes when asking to Save.

I am messing with Step 3, I can't put the cam in a good place. How you do it for Studio 397 content? Thanks.

Use the move slow command. You can also just use x, y, z inputs in the file if you can't get it close enough.

You can define the movement speed in your player or controller.json

X, Y, Z inputs in the file? What exactly does this means? Thank you for helping me.

Ok, Thank you all. I think this will save me a lot of time and I hope this thread will also help other modders in the future.

If I have another questions in the near future I will post them here.

    Really Thanks.

Sorry, but the cameras dev system is a f.... s.....!!!

I lost about 3 hours trying to make a car camera and its a shame. Its impossible to make. I will go with .cam file editing and I leave the dev mode system because its impossible to use, its a mess.

How easily it could be by just letting our mouse to be moved in the way we want and a single click to save it like Assetto Corsa does but no... you need to move the cam by using togle fly with unbeliable speed and not understeable buttons that also doesn't work when you click on edit cam... honestly, what a joke!!

Maybe this explain why we have poor quality cams, specially onboards, lol.
