    My System:

    ATI Radeon 4870 512MB
    Intel E8500 CPU @ 3.20ghz
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    Windows XP
    Running off my standard HDD

Just to see, I maxed out everything, AA and AF included, at 1920x1080, the result?

    9fps

By all means, I do not at all expect to run this maxed. But I think with those settings, 15-25 fps would be what I expect.

When I turn settings to low/medium, I get 50fps alone, 30fps with 15 other cars, but the game looks quite fuzzy and ugly.

I certainly need a new rig. But cosidering I happily run games like Arma 2, Crysis, and all other race sims, I think this game is taking a bit too much.

But I love the game, and I will not complain at all until I get a new computer in 2-3 months. Then I will expect it to perform well!

    :)

Well one point I'd make is that if you're not running XP64bit then that 4GB of ram is largely going to waste. Windows 32bit can only address 2GB to a program without the 3GB switch including Vram so you effectively have 1.5GB for rFactor 2. Second, the 4870 is a step down from my 5750 which is in the 'upper-middle' performance bracket and that 512MB Vram ain't helping your cause. My advice would be lower your expectations, crank down the resolution and don't set AA or AF higher than level 2, the difference is very hard to spot.

I've got it up to 21 cars without bogging down much at all in rain with all settings on max save AA and AF in the rain at Monaco, and though my resolution is (fairly) low it equals out to more than 72DPI so it's not that noticeable.

    Thanks mate, and I agree.

My 1920x1080 monitor is new, and therefor I do not actually know what lower resolutions I could run, whilst maintaining the ratio?

On my old 1280x1024 monitor, I knew that 1024x768, and 800x600, were both lower resolutions, but both kept aspect ratio.

Which resolutions can I run which are lower than 1920x1080, but maintain ratio?

    Thanks for any help!

Also, are there any specific graphics options you recommend turning down?

    Cheers!

To see if a specific resolution has the same aspect ratio as another, divide both first numbers, and see if it equals the division of the both second numbers.
For example, if you want to see if 1920x1080 has the same aspect ratio as 1280x720, divide 1920/1280 (which is 1.5), and then divide 1080/720 (which is 1.5 aswell). Since both results are the same, then they use the same aspect ratio.
Another example, 1920x1080 has a different aspect ratio than 1280x1024 because 1920/1280=1.5; but 1080/1024=1.25.

    q9550@3.82ghz
    4gb corsair dominator 1800mhz
    Evga gtx280 hc16 (1gb)

Everything maxed except shadows-high, shadow blur-off, sun occlusion-off, track reflections-off and environment reflections-off.

Decided to disable HDR as it has issues at the moment. Makes things look too bright and hits performance too much for the little it adds.
I think some things look nicer without it actually.

Tried really heavy rain with and without HDR with the vintage F1's at SPA and the difference was 20-30fps in some parts of the track.
Without HDR it was locked solid 60fps even in the pits.

As it's in beta these things are to be expected I guess, but framerate needs to be optimized a lot in some areas, especially with HDR enabled.

I also noticed the strange glitch on track that I noticed in the spa preview video that was shown ages ago. 30-40 meters ahead on the track there seems to be a lighter coloured patch, seems to be draw distance related. It is at the same distance and doesn't move. seems to be where the detail is being draw in possibly??

Even if you manage to maintain ratio, the LCD wont behave as you old CRT did (i suppose you 1280x1024 was a CRT). If you run your LCD in a non native resolution (anything other than 1920x1080) it will became blurry. Try lowering other settings before, changing resolution on a LCD is a last resort.

Thanks mate. My last monitor was LCD. But yeah, when I changed it, the quality wasn't great.

    Current mointor is LED.
