I've been to every Runoff/Rainoffs at Road Atlanta from 1974-1993.
First few years as a spectator, but also as an Tuner, Competitor even Scrutineered in the Tech Shed one year.
We lived in Raleigh I worked for Nortel and Jim Fitzgerald work at Western Electric in Greensboro; we were engineers in similar fields working for rivals.
I watched the Champion ad and had to add...
I was born in Sylvania Ohio on Elmont Road about 1000 feet from the Stranahan estate where the original Champion Spark Plug Factory was.
