Getting back to RF2 or jumping to LMU?

Lost focus interest in simracing for some months mainly because online racing in RF2 was getting unsatisfying: beginner competition were often scarce and or populated by bad drivers , advanced competitions were almost always empty.
LMU looks like have catched a lot of attention, and while GT and hypercar are not my can of worm I prefer to race online than lapping alone .
I don't want to spend money on Irating, I don't like it (tried 3 Years ago)

LMU has decent numbers, yeah. rF2 is mainly for leagues etc, you can occasionally get a handful in the online system (sometimes 15-20 cars if you get the right day and time).

They're also different things, really, since rF2 is open and LMU isn't. I'd certainly leave rF2 installed for solo runs or organised groups.

The LMP2 and LMP3 cars are nice and raw, an easy* and satisfying transition if you're not a fan of the ABS of GT3 or the hybrid system shenanigans of the Hypercars (I also went in with zero knowledge of these classes).

*tyre physics is improved on rF2, they can be trickier at least at first

I am also not too crazy about modern racecars and tracks. But if I wanted to race those online, it is pretty easy choice to go for LMU. I think in general the only simulations, which seem to honestly stay true to simulation code and are currently in development are LMU and iRacing. I wish rF2 was actively developed too. I would pay rF2 subscription fee, just so it would be kept on being streamlined and boosted up. Or for rF3 if it was moddable and straightforward to transfer mods and continue the developments there... dreams... Am I crazy to want to pay subscription for a sim that I think works well and can get better ? I would be iRacing paybig if they had cars that I like, and they were well done, and people chose them.

rF2 now is clearly the choice if you can find content in it that you think does what you want it to do. Also to me rF2 is best choice for modding. I hate leagues, because they destroyed fabric of this sim, but at the same time they are probably holding it too... and some online racign can be found there if base competition system is not populated enough... which is a shame. Leagues sucks... Competition system is pretty good.

Thank you for your insight, probably will have some spare time in the near future, will try to dive into simracing again.
Hope to see you on the track.

Nice, I think I should come back to normal sim racing too...

So what are you deciding ? Streamlined selected quality LMU online racing. Or rF2 with its wilderness of choices and effort/luck needed to approach online racing with that very content you'd like to race ?

RF2 leagues and private server rely too much on mods and you always need do dowload stuff, My connection is fast in term of latency but not so fast to be willing to downloand 300 mb everytime I try to enter a server.
I think I will jump to LMU, then I will keep RF2 for my nostalgia content that I can play singleplayer like F1 1979 and stuff like that.

I would test setting up a rF2 server on your own tower.
If you make it interesting combos you should get joiners.
Feel it out for a few weeks ask joiners what they like.
Free open server you can change what you like when you like.

LMU / rF2 official servers you beholden to a schedule, barely ever change settings, like weather, time of day, real road etc.

This is off topic but great NEW video of 16 year iRacing veteran.
He likes LMU for the same physical reasons I do.

Interesting he says he skirted over rF2 and seems he never found out the secret
rF2 drives like LMU :p, it gives you the same sort of feelings he mentions, AI behave the same way ( real time dynamics) , some say even better.
