gJED uses FBX format and I thought some people might be looking for a converter... Here ya go. Free... http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=22694909
Ohhh, nice. Haven't tried it yet, but it includes a Windows shell extension, so apparently you can convert with a right-click.
With this tool? OBJ, DXF, DAE, and 3DS. But if you talk about modelling applications generally, FBX format is widely supported.
FBX is not supported in the modelling applications i know and i do my daily work with. But there is maybe a way using dxf files. Need to test it this weekend. But i fear to many conversions cost to much data quality.
Depends on the model as to what might get lost. Normally going between dynamic geometry and static geometry is where the most data can be lost. If you're in Max or something similar, if you make your mesh editable mesh instead of poly beofre export it will help, like wise in other programs, converting dynamics to a static type of mesh would be advisable before export. Overall though, if you lose data in an export or conversion, send that on to the devs, they'll want to know as it's not something that should happen if everyone has crossed the i's and dotted their t's... See what I did there? lol
I dont think the devs will and can do anything when i lose data on my way to fbx. I am trying to find a way to create the geometry in catia. The rest i can do in other tools.
I mean the devs of the converters... Not the devs here. I'll have to look up Catia just to see what it is.
Catia, SolidWorks etc. is maybe not the best choise for rF2 modding... These applications are designed for little bit different purpose.
But that the tool i know best. Working over 10 years with it. I found theoretically a way that could work. I only need to check it. And no no fighter jets but sometimes working on planes but mainly cars or tools.
