Formula Pro custom skins

Hello all,

hope someone can help me. I made a livery for the Formula Pro, created the .mas, put it in the ...\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Installed\Vehicles\FormulaPro_2021\1.21 folder (and then 1.20 too) but the skin doesn't appear in game.

Does someone have any idea why? I don't have this problem with other vehicles, only this one...

Thanks in advance!
Did you make a Google Search about it?
I can not find it, but there exist detailed Descriptions about how to do it.

I don't paint Skins, but i mean to remember, that the mas File has to be put into the Folder of the Car for what it is made for and the Folder gets created when you go into the "Customize" Screen of the Car, where you should find something like a Button with a Paint Symbol or soemthing like that.
And when you click that, the Game creates the necessary Folder in the Setting Folder, which can be found in
..\rFactor 2\UserData\player\Settings\[Name of the Car].
Put the mas File into that Folder and it should work then, if everything else necessary is made properly.

As said, i don't paint Skins, so all i have written above is without Warranty. :)

I know this procedure and I did this way to put the livery in game for myself - but I must make it work with the MAS so I can send it to my client ;) Usually packing all the files in a MAS file and adding it to the folder of the car in "Installed" works, but this time for this car doesn't, at least for me. That's why I'm asking here if there's something else or different that I must do to make it work :)

@Tilen7 Ah, OK. :)
Did you ever think about to use an Update rfcmp for it?
At least that is a definitely working Option (from my Experience) to use Skin-"Packs" on a Server and you can include them into the Server rfmod File too.

Yeah, if I won't be able to make the MAS work, then I'll have to do it with the rfcmp

@Tilen7 I get interested into this Problem.
Would you mind to upload your mas File somewhere and send me the Link by a private Conversation, that i can try it out?
It sounds a bit strange, that this Problem only exists with the Formula Pro Cars, as you've said.

Just looking at this from a different point of view, Formula Pro is paid content, so will need a current serverunlock.bin file on the server (I’m assuming here you’re using a steam-cmd server). If so go to your game’s userdata folder and copy it and put it in your server’s userdata folder.

@Goanna If i understand it right, that is not his Problem.
He wrote "hope someone can help me. I made a livery for the Formula Pro, created the .mas, put it in the ...\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Installed\Vehicles\FormulaPro_2021\1.21 folder (and then 1.20 too) but the skin doesn't appear in game."
So if he can select the original Formula Pro Cars, the Unlock.bin File is there and he talks about the Game and not the Server.

@Tilen7 I just made a quick Test with the Formula Pro and also the Porsche 992 Cup.
With both Cars the alt Skin appears in the Menu when i follow the Instructions from THIS S397 Website.

When i put the mas Files of the Cars into the Installed/ Subfolders of the Cars, they don't appear, no matter in which Version Subfolder i put it.

And from the Description on the mentioned Website, there is nothing said about it being working in that Way.

Do you have an Example mas File, that works when you put it into the Installed/ Subfolder of the Car for that the Skin is?

I have no problem posting the MAS files, so here's the Formula Pro file of the livery for my client: DOWNLOAD HERE

I also made an IndyCar livery for the same client some time ago and putting the file in ...\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Installed\Vehicles\DallaraIR18_2020\1.73 it still works to this day (if you want to try, here's the mas: DOWNLOAD HERE).

But it seems I have bigger problems with rF2 now, since every time I load any car on any track and then hit "Drive", the game crashes. Checking integrity files and all that now, hope to find a solution but I guess it's stuff for an other topic in this forum

@Tilen7 I tried it out and have the same Effect that you have. Dallara shows up Formula Pro doesn't.
I made a quick Test and packed an own Skin MAS and that showed up (Screenshot below, the selected Car).
The only visible Change that i made is, to include the Upgrades.ini and the Brand Logo File.
But since the Dallara shows up, these 2 Files can not be mandatory.
I didn't check the Content of your Mas File deeper, but there must be something corrupted.
If you want, you can test my mas on your Machine.
Here is the Download

Good Luck with getting rF2 running again.
Before you uninstall it (it normally is never necessary to uninstall and install it again), rename your UserData Folder (..\rFactor 2\UserData, to keep it as a Backup) before you start the Game, then start it, to get a fresh one. In most Cases, Problems are gone then.

@Tilen7 Me again, out of Curiousity i've checked your Files and i've found the Problem.
In your veh File, the linked Sound File is FormulaPro.sfx and in my veh File it is FormulaPro-snd.json.
Can it be, that you did make the Update with an older Version of the Mod?
Howsoever, due to the Link to the FormulaPro.sfx Sound File, your Car doesn't show up in the Menu, because the sfx File can't be found.
Change it to FormulaPro-snd.json in your veh File and it will work (Screenshot below).

I hope you got rFactor 2 running again.

I had the same issue because I set MAS2 as the default app to open .mas files in Windows. Double-clicking a .mas file worked as expected, but it kept leading to recurring errors.

Well spotted, Redapg!
