Been trying to get this sim to run for over a week with no success. I've tried almost every trick suggested in the forum short of re-installing Windows. (Too many things that would have to be re-installed and too much time expended for just one sim.) My machine is my own build (about three years old) consisting of Windows 10 64 bit build 18362.535, Intel I7 6850 processor, Geforce 1080 graphics card and 128 Gb of Corsair RAM. The original RFactor, Project Cars, Project Cars 2 and the GPL 2020 Demo all work flawlessly along with a couple of flight sims, so the machine is not the problem. I've tried re-running the Direct X files and runtime files from the support file. Also checked the setting of the graphics card within RFactor and verified all files through Steam. When I attempt to run the any of the game launches the launch screen disappears for a split second before reappearing with no game start. Any ideas as to what is happening here?
Try going here: rFactor 2\UserData\player and deleting player.json and controller.json, and see if that does something.
Since the program has never opened, neither file appears in the user file as neither has ever been created.
Have you tried creating a trace? I don't know if it'll get far enough to generate it, but you never know. https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/how-to-create-a-trace-file.62304/
run all 4 runtime files ? C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Support\Runtimes Windows re-install is last last last resort. However, some Win10 updates have been known to break a systems usb/motherboard drivers. so possibly try re-installing as many driver's from your Motherboard manufacturer as well as chipset updates etc.
For whatever its worth, I tried forcing it to start in 32 bit and surprisingly it worked. Still won't launch in 64 bit.
Check your firewall isn't blocking rF2. Just to clarify, You click Play at the rF2 Steam library page. The rF2 Launcher appears and then disappears a split second later and then nothing? Does the rF2 Library page show it's ready to play again straight away?
Turning off the Firewall made no difference. That said, I do run through a hard wired router, but can't see how that would block RFactor2 and nothing else as Project Cars 2 runs fine through Steam. Going off-line for a few hours, will check back tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions, hopefully there is a solution somewhere.
When I hit the single player launch button the launcher disappears for a split second and then reappears as though nothing had happened. Hitting the start button again causes the same thing all over again.
Post screenshots of the settings screen. Do you have the correct graphics card selected? Are you trying to force 32bit?
Graphics card is correct. I can run the sim by forcing 32 bit, just can't run it in 64 bit which seems very strange.
I downloaded it from Steam's winter sale, installed it, had it fail. Uninstalled it and tried again thinking maybe it hadn't fully installed, same result. I've uninstalled and reinstalled five times, verifying the files each time...same result. So I guess the answer to your question is yes and no.
How is your PC connected to your monitor/TV? If you're running through a splitter/av receiver, these can cause issues.... https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/windows-10-nvidia-rfactor-2-wont-start.60501/page-3
