It might be sacrilege to Gordan Murray Mp4/4 fans, but I think the 84 to 87 MP4/s are the best looking of the 80s McLarens. The bulbous shape and proportions are well balanced...the 88 MP4/4 looks like a stick with wheels. Still a fan of the BT55 though.
just so long as you don't make that GAWD OFFUL Mclaren they saddled Michael Andretti with. A face even a mother wouldn't love.
I've always thought the MP4/8 and MP4/9 were two of the best looking McLarens they ever made. And it can't of been that awful if it won 5 Grand Prix with an under-powered engine.
Without even mentionning Senna, Hakkinen did just fine in his short time in that car. From what I've read here and there, Andretti can take a lot of blame for not fitting in properly within the team.
ah scrambled brain. I was thinking of a car that came after the Andretti fiasco. this flying wing on the airbox ... BLECH!
Michael Andretti saw F1 as a weekend job. In those days the Concorde brought you to Europe and back to the US in 3,5 hours (as opposed to 7-8 hours on a normal plane). This he made good use of and would fly in on Friday and return to the US on Sunday as soon as possible. Of course this depended on where the weekend race was. But, this gave the team and the engineers serious problems as he was never up to speed (or interested) in taking the 1993 F1 season seriously after winning the 1991 CART PPG Indy Car World Series. And having the great Ayrton Senna as your teammate, I would think serious is the least you should be. Here is some interesting footage from "THE TEAM A Season With McLaren" of his time at McLaren in 1993. You might notice how impressed McLaren was to have someone of Michael Andretti's stature in their car
Hi! Chief is ready. Im still middle of working with Ferrari. I have very very busy time now at work, so can work only weekends now.. But not that far from release
