Well I tried in vain to get the mirrors to play ball in 3dsimed. I am not sure what dictates the dimensions of the view without it being squished!
Ok, now i get it. Big thanks mate.Mirror stretch issue is caused by UV mapping. You have to adjust UV value to fix.
In 3dsimed, you can manually adjust UV scale and position.
Note: you will have to first separate left mirror from right mirror, before doing adjustment, otherwise all mirror UV will change at once.
Below is an example, you can start with U scale 0.5 or 0.4, then adjust U offset (take some tries); then maybe also need adjust V scale (something like 1.4) and V offset:
