Do you plan on releasing a GMT import script for 3ds max?

I've been using zoli's plugin for ever, which works great for the most part but it does mess up normals and material settings some times.

    Thanks,

+1 That script kicked butt. It would be great to get an official one for 3ds Max. I can learn so much from importing tracks and vehicles and seeing how they're setup as opposed to just reading about them. I tend to be more of a "hands on" learner.

I don't THINK we'll be doing this. We can't officially support anything that would allow someone to reverse-engineer someone else's work. This would have to be a community-offered script as before, I think...

We will be providing 3DS MAX examples to help out.

I've been using it for my own work plenty of times, be it because of mismanagement of project files on my part or getting a quick import of older projects/objects.
It also reset any of the non-working 3ds max settings/modifiers/whateverImessedupinmax and let me look at a less extensive list of materials from the limited number of objects instead of the full list.

I don't care where it comes from, but I'd really appreciate such a script.

Great! Btw, is there going to be other Max tools or scripts other than new(?) version of GMT converter?

I've never heard of this script before. Could you possibly PM me a link please Ed?

    Thanks,

Thank you Scott, I understand your point. I've used the script primarily when the source file is not available and when converting GPL tracks which are not created in max. It's also useful when the original max scene is messy because you can re-import the gmts and the materials get organized as sub-materials.

Hopefully someone will be able to expand on zoli's great work.

What about a GMT specification to write third-party GMT export plugins?
