Do I need to keep this weekend free?

Race2Play says they already have keys. Should I sign up for that or just wait a few more days?

Those guys aren't going to get any special treatment. That email is just a marketing gimmick/BS wording. They'll be the first to try the open beta just like the rest of us will be the first to try open beta. Read those words lightly my friend.

 

So, did ISI give them those keys? If so, i guess we cant be THAT far away.

If I may add a comment on the distribution of the beta files: why not putting the files on Amazon S3 for a few days? It would cost some reasonable amount of money to ISI but it's fully scalable and would provide high quality distribution. Setup is done within a few minutes. (if dl = 500MB, it would cost ISI around 1200$ to get it distributed to 20000 users and this at full download speed)
Speaking about hosting: if you want to run a server from time to time, the Amazon EC2 are a great. It would cost you around .5$ per hour. I used it for rF1 and it worked like a charm.

 

Just make sure a very clear page setting out the goals of the beta exists to be read before you hit the buy button, problem solved. It just has to be very effectively designed and written so it doesn't look like a EULA that everyone skips and ignores

Also, on install, have a read me pop up with all those details again. Maybe even on first run, have a screen come up saying a few things, too - just on first run though.

 

Seeing as this is a beta release and not a full retail release it'll probably be distributed via torrents. Its "free" and offers the greatest speed when there are 1000s of people downloading (if your speeds are slow you've configured it wrong or are being throttled by your ISP).

This should leave ISI free to give their accounts system the most bandwidth if everyone is signing up at once.

 

HTTP should also be an option, as I have torrent blocked by ISP (well, it's actually the university)

 

I imagine some kind soul could upload it somewhere else?

That is if that is aloud...
