Cockpit engine sound is sometimes lower than opponent cars engines sound.

I have new PC, new rF2 installation. I usually can solve it for the time by shuffling "speaker"-"headphones"-"auto" and back to "speaker" setting. In my previous rF2 installation everything was fine all the time.

Could it be something not well with my PC, I already have some other slight issues because PSU is 650W, little too little for Nvidia 5070 GPU.

Depends on CPU ( "i9" or a "9" ) and/or whether you overclock.
If not should be fine like stock 7800X3D running good negative curve.

Sound will always be a minor drama depending if content has been updated.
Just have to play with the onboard level and get as good as you can.

I remember about these problems when the "new sound system" was introduced.
dont know if it helps... here is my settings

I just always have to go to sound options and switch to "auto" if I had "speakers" setting, or I have to switch other way around. And then it works. I have to do this every single time I am launching game. Maybe it doesn't matter. Just going to do that all the time now. At least with the new PC and new rF2 installation I don't have to do FFB reset every single time.

This is almost certainly an audio device/mix issue, not PSU/GPU. I’d set rF2 to one mode (Speakers or Headphones), then in Windows disable Spatial Sound/enhancements and make sure the right output is default. A stereo vs 5.1 mix mismatch can make cockpit engine sound drop while opponents stay loud.

This has been bugging me since the new sound system update.
Switching from Auto to Speakers (or vice versa) works !!!
Thank you so much for mentioning this fix.

I think what bugs you the most is cars that never had audio update, which is many.

old content, reiza, untouched 3rd party mods are quieter in the cockpit.

if you use headphones you can choose either headphones or speakers in rf2 but in windows you have to choose headphones and if you are using a motherboard sound chip like realtek also choose the headphones option there because the game sends an analog 5.1 signal to windows
the sound may sound wrong if you use the speaker setting with headphones in use.the headphone setting in rf2 starts the hrtf virtual surround mode
which distorts the sound if you record or stream the game in which case you should use the game's speaker setting

I know I'm new here, but If there are issues with the car sound volumes, isn't there a way to fix it. First set a standard like the original content cars, since those can't be changed anyways and then set all the other cars according to that ?
Not sure If you remember Ducfreak, but he was a wizard with cars sounds. I was going over a thread I saved over at NoGrip, and he had a lot of good points. That thread along with other help I got helped me to fix some issues I was having with GTR2 sounds.
But being new to Rfactor 2 I'm not used to MAS files and how they can be repacked so they don't interfere with mismatches with multiplayer, but other than that it can just be done a bit at a time, right?

There is a simple, global fix as described by mantasisg in a post above.
Go to Settings > Sound and change the Speakers setting.
It doesn't matter what you change it to. As long as you change it.
You can then set to whatever you like.
You need to do this every time you start rF2.

MAS files can't be touched with any content you're going to race online. You can do an upgrade mas, I'm not sure on the current state of online with that. I think it's ok, but servers running different versions might confuse things. Could be wrong.
Anyway, then you probably have to build a whole new sound file (.json) to make changes, unless the original mod isn't encrypted of course.

Is there a tutorial on how to take out a file from the MAS then change it and put it back again? I know you copy the original MAS first so you can go back. I also heard you can start Rfactor 2 in a Developer Mode I think its called to try things out, but I'm not quite sure how.

If you make a separate component update for online you just run a private server using the version.

Could become popular server, better handling versions of old content old tyres.
F3, once you drive the mod you would never want to drive the stock one again.

Would this work ? Although it sounds complicated

That Method is more made for replacing Sounds of DLC Cars.
To modify the original Volume or other Things, you have to have Access to the original Files and that is what we don't have for DLC Cars.
At least not for the Sound SFX or JSON Files and also not for the wav Files.
