Mid-80s IndyCars were "ground effect" cars with almost all the down force on ovals developed by the venturi channels under the chassis. The 1978 Lola was not a ground effects car but the John Barnard designed Chaparral from the next season was definitely a full ground effects car.

The Penske PC-7 was the first ground effects car in early 79', raced by Bobby Unser, the Chaparral 2K was the second, first raced by his brother Al at the 79' Indy 500

Totally, completely awesome. Always loved the yellow submarines. Saw this guy race at Ontario Motor Speedway. Still have the program.

Yep, I hear that everyday. By my grandbabies, my kids, and my wife. But on the upside, I saw Mario, A. J., Gilles, and Niki in their prime. So I'm good. :)

Fantastic work sofar. Are you planning to do the road configs later on or just the speedway config for now? If you need some info on the different drivers and liveries, there is a nice website with the paint schemes for the Indy 500 throughout the different years:

Incredible, how fast you model those cars. Btw, it might be very nitpicky, but from the last link that I posted you can see that different teams used different mounts for the rear wings and the little endplates on the front wings were variable aswell. Might be something to consider to spice up the things a little bit. Anyway, great progress so far and I hope you find someone to help you on the physics side of things. Maybe @Devin or @Navigator can help you. ;)
