I took a short break of about a week from using rf2. When I tried to launch the game yesterday and today I can get no further than the white "rf2 banner" in the centre of the screen. I have checked my files on Steam and verified. Any ideas?
Did you already try it with renaming the UserData Folder before you start the Game, to get a fresh one? That often solves Problems.
Yes, I've tried that. No luck. My other Steam games are fine. Should I consider an Uninstall/install?
I would say "No". If you made the File Verification and also used a fresh UserData Folder, a complete new Install will not change anything in most of such Cases, in my Opinion. Did you also execute all 4 Files, that are in the Folder ..\rFactor 2\Support\Runtimes? If asked, select Install or Repair.
It's hard to try to help to solve such Things, without to have the Computer in front of you, especially when something stops to work after a While of not being used and nothing was changed. In such Cases, like you describe yours, normally Things like Windows Updates or new installed Software can be the Reason. You can try to make an Uninstall (ensure that you really delete everything - check the old Install Folder and delete left Folders and Files manually). I don't think that a complete fresh Install will solve your Problem, because, as said already, you've made the Steam File Validation and used a fresh UserData Folder. And a fresh Install will result in the same Configuration, so why should it change anything? But try it out, who knows....... Or, before you do that, you search for the Problem here or in the whole Internet, because a lot of People have reported such Problems already and could get it solved.
I remember having this problem a while ago but unfortunately I can't remember how I solved it . I think I reinstalled everything. After you start rFactor open the task manager to check if rFactor procces is running in the background, do you know how to open it? Also you could try restoring the system to a week ago. Let me know if you need help.
Click on the button "Scan for affected programs" to see what programs would be affected. Although I'm not so sure if that would solve the problem since the restore point is from a month ago, what it means that none windows update has taken place in the last week.
Dumb question. Did you wait a good amount of time for rF2 to load? Sometimes it takes a good 5 minutes for the game to load after you shut the computer off and boot rF2 again.
Kind of a follow on to Johhny's question. When you use Steam to verify files, the UI will often report the process is 100% complete yet the HD will continue to work away. Make sure you give plenty of extra time for the true 100% completion of the Verify File integrity.
Thank you all for your help. I solved it. I found a runtime file (2015) in the main folder, repaired it and ran the the game. Up it came. Shot in that dark but it worked.
It would be interesting to know, which Runtime File you have in the main rFactor 2 Folder. I don't have one there. EDIT Was it maybe installed together with a 3rd Party Plugin that you use?
Too good to be true. After a good nights sleep - back to square 1. I tried with and without the above file. No luck.
Create a shortcut for rfactor2.exe as it follows: 1. Go to the main rFactor 2 folder 2. Go to Bin64 3. Right click on rFactor.exe then Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut) 4. Go to the dekstop, right click on the shortcut and then select Properties 5. There you will find a window like the image I post, remove the text Bin64 (what it's selected on the image)
