The more time I spend on this, the more baffled I become.

I was able to get my original server hardware working again by temporarily turning off the Windows firewall. Windows received a new IP, but this was planned and I had already prepared the network firewall for that.

I'm not sure how Windows handles its own firewall. It doesn't make sense to me why an IP change would cause an issue with the Windows Firewall. Rebooting didn't help.

Now, I just need to figure out why my other server hardware still won't connect to Steam.

I finally have this solved with what I would call a workaround. I spent some time re-reading this particular post by Marco Boy (https://forum.studio-397.com/index....us-not-connected-to-steam.74520/#post-1130362)

"You're right, but when I start to have the problem No connected to Steam i began to try something like everything, till to install Steam and connect to it, and when I did it the server connected to Steam"

The English is a little broken and confused me, but I finally realized what he's saying. He is saying that he installed Steam, opened the app and logged into it, and then his dedi server would show "Connected to Steam."

I gave this a try and I worked. First, I have to load Steam (with my account logged in), and leave it running. Then, I can start my dedicated servers (steamcmd) and they will show "Connected to Steam." They also appear in the in-game server list. Closing Steam will close the dedicated servers too.

I don't understand why this works, and I feel like it should be unnecessary to have to install Steam. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Now that I think about it, will Steam allow me to be logged into Steam on two different computers?

Confirmed that I cannot run Steam on two computers with the same account. RF2 is currently discounted at 80% off so I may just buy a copy for a different account dedicated to my server.

With that said, for whatever reason, I need the dedicated server to be able to use Steam to launch RF2. RF2 goes into a "running" state in Steam when I run the dedicated server. It makes me wonder if something is getting blocked when running the Steamcmd install or executing the rfactor2-dedicated.exe software.

Steamcmd rf2 dedicated server doesn't need Steam to run. For sure.
    There is still something wrong.
Also you didn't need to buy any game, just create a random mail and use it to create another account on Steam to run it "connected" to activate your workaround.

Today's posts are a complete contradiction of your first post.

Your first post stated the steamcmd dedicated server was installed on a standalone computer to your gaming pc. This is the correct way of installation.

Today you your saying you've installed steamcmd dedicated server on the gaming pc with the steam client. This is wrong, and creates a conflict on pc which is causing your problem. Steam Client and steamcmd dedicated server should not be on the same pc.

@DanRZ This was my thought, too. So, I already tried making a separate account, but that did not work. I don't know what's going on, but it's as if the dedicated server is looking for some kind of authentication. Which I know it uses an anonymous login during the steamcmd install. I'm not able to make sense of it.

At this point, this makes me think it's some kind of Steam related issue.

@woohookid No, the dedicated server is running on dedicated hardware. Not my gaming PC. They are completely separate installs. Sorry if something I posted caused this confusion.

When you run Steam previously, the dedicated "attaches" itself to the Steam dlls, and so activates something to validate the game.

When you run it alone, there is something wrong that looks like it makes Steam auth server to not validate it.

I remember some vdf file missing causing some weird effects like that. I don't remember the exact name. Everything is right concerning ports and connection, but there is another thing wrong that don't validate the server.

Do you have the right serverkeys ? Bin files ?

Mine were started with the command line :
    C:\Games\rfactor2-dedicated\Bin64
    +path=".." +profile=player2 +oneclick

Do you have the +path data ?

Yes, here's what I set mine to:
    "C:\rfactor2-dedicated\Bin64\rFactor2 Dedicated.exe" +profile=player2 +path=".."

I'll double check the keys, but I thought that was only needed when using paid content.

    @Soundless

YOU CANNOT INSTALL THE STEAM CLIENT DEDICATED SERVER AND STEAMCMD DEDICATED SERVER ON THE SAME PC !!!

This is what is causing your problem !!!

If you format the dedicated server, install a fresh version of windows, setup the port forwarding on the router, install the steamcmd dedicated server, set windows network to private, the rfactor2 server will start working properly straight away.

Found it. Do you have steam_appid.txt file in C:\Games\rfactor2-dedicated ?
And there is the id 365960 inside.

I've checked the steam_appid file in the past, but I will check again in case things changed.

It looks like something is not validating your server at Steam.
Maybe add +trace=2 and check the trace txt file to see if something is in error or else.

Unfortunately, nothing is standing out to me in the trace log.

Do you have something in SteamPlugin.log in rfactor2-dedicated\UserData\Log ?
I also noticed this file is not created if i remove the steam_appid.txt.

Yes, it tells me "rFactor server failed to connect to Steam." It will give me a success message if I use my workaround (running the Steam client on the steamcmd dedicated server (not my gaming PC) at the same time).
