Hello sim racers,

The next announcement from our 2023 Q1 Update is here - BTCC Hybrid Boost.

A new addition to the world of touring car racing in the UK, read up on what it is and how you use it on the Studio 397 website, here: https://www.studio-397.com/2023/02/announcing-btcc-hybrid-boost/

" BTCC Hybrid Boost – Coming January 21st to rFactor 2! "

Dang it.....if only i had time machine.

Jokes aside, 2023 is off very strong start.

  • ..we have developed a new LCD dashboard display for this new feature, that presents all the relevant information to the player...
Will the information be displayed on views other than cockpit view (eg. bonnet / bumper cams)?

Will this be included in a RC prior to the full release? Mapping the buttons to adjust the Hybrid boost did not do anything with a 22 BTCC Hyundai. Using the Push to Pass at Portland allowed 1 15 second burst per lap. Could not use on the backstretch and then again on the following front straight, it would not activate even though more than 2 seconds had passed and 3rd gear+.

  • Boost will disengage once player passes the start/finish line

How come? I suppose the boost will be used in straights..

I think that's specific to BTCC cars. They can only use it for 15 seconds per lap and it resets once the cross S/F.

  • Time limit for activations is 15s per lap
  • Boost only enables from 3rd gear onwards
  • Boost remains active so long as the player keeps the boost button depressed – up to a maximum of 15s
  • A minimum delay of 2s exists between activations (including once passing the start/finish line)
  • Boost will disengage once player passes the start/finish line

In 2022, the boost was only allowed once the car reached a minimum speed of 120 kmph (current rF2 BTCC cars have a minimum of 110 kmph for P2P in the upgrade.ini). That's supposed to change in 2023 with lower deployment speeds for some drivers and higher for other drivers depending on where they are in the driver's championship or their finish in the previous race.

Also in 2022, the time limit for activations was only 10 seconds per lap at Knockhill and Silverstone.

Hopefully this will be something we can adjust in the upgrade.ini for current and future rules.

AI can use this function?
My first VERY BRIEF test didn't appear to show the 2022 AI cars can use the Hybrid function. HOWEVER.... 2021 has no hybrid so it would be more than suitable for offline users. Online users could make use of the hybrid on servers with the 2022 carset. And...if users WANT they hybrid but stay offline, you might have to bump your opponent skill up a notch or two.

People are like: I want all the most realistic behaviour and features!
Then: sheesh! That car has driving aids, that's not hardcore, I don't want to use them!

Never forget that "thousands" are playing and only "five" of them are complaining. People usually only come here to get questions answered and to vent in general. All the others are fine. ;-)

@Paul Jeffrey Is work being done to allow other huds to get at this info (battery remaining, boost remaining on current lap, able to use etc etc)?
