    Hi all, decided to make some content on the new BTCC stuff so tried to fire up rFactor 2. I get the rFactor 2 logo and then a black screen.

    I have tried;
    • removing all usb devices apart from absolutely essential (mouse, keyboard etc)
    • reinstalling runtimes in support folder
    • deleted config_dx11.ini
    • deleted player folder
    • checked firewall allowed
    • checked anti virus flag
    • disconnected all other monitors (i have 4, just left main one plugged in)
    • changed every video setting in the config
    • completely deleted and reinstalled and repeated steps above
    • changed refresh rate of my monitor down from 165 to 60 incase that was an issue
    my hardware;
    • i7 8700
    • RTX 3080
    • 32GB Ram
    • game installed on NVMe drive
    any and all advice welcomed.

    I have found the cause, though I don't know why it is.

    I used the trace function and got the following error;
    2.82s SoundEngineA 153: AL error detected: AL_INVALID_OPERATION, in Context Create

    so I disabled;
    • Nvidia broadcast 1.3.0.45
    • Voicemod V2.27
    • Voicemeeter Potato V3.0.2.1 (64 bit)
    Game launched as intended.

    I brought each one back on, in turn. The game fails to launch when Voicemeter potato is active/launched.

    To solve this, I launched the game with voicemeeter disabled. Selected a voicemeeter sound output for the game. Closed. launched voicemeeter then the game.

    all working as intended.

    I realise this is a super, super rare thing, but, if the game doesn't launch on a sound issue people may not think of this.

    Seen someone with the same error on a system without any audio device installed. A more visible error message would be good to point toward the likely cause.
