AMD 14.4 Amazing driver thread

Where are all the naysayers who condemned rF2's "antique" gfx engine for low FPS. It's the drivers, stoopid.

Can some one please explain what is the best way to update the driver?!

The way I do it is download the driver from AMD, go to control panel and uninstall the AMD graphics driver related software (go custom uninstall, incase there is stuff you want left there unrelated to graphics drivers), and then restart the computer. Install the new driver (custom install to get rid of the junk they throw in) and then restart again.

thats what i did first .. i uninstalled all the AMD related software and started from scratch.. ( ive had no problems so far)

Went to download these drivers for my son's older Vista based machine running a HD6950 2GB. Latest driver for Vista is 13.12.

I had the same problem, it's a bit silly that AMD have given up on Vista

The good news is that there is a work around, after a quick search on the AMD forum's I found a way to use the 14.4 drivers on Vista, it worked for me and I got a nice 15-20 fps boost.

Check the link below for the details.

Ok, as i assume, there is none improvement for 6000 series cards, actually is much worse by results:

12.11 beta:
2014-04-29 12:32:35 - rFactor2
Frames: 8121 - Time: 213518ms - Avg: 38.034 - Min: 29 - Max: 48

14.4:
2014-04-29 13:15:48 - rFactor2
Frames: 6825 - Time: 213831ms - Avg: 31.918 - Min: 25 - Max: 39

So i have a feeling most of people(at least 5000, 6000 series users) get better results because something was going wrong with their previous driver or game files(they have a lot bloatware, broken files, odd(different) settings or whatever) I can only speak for 6000 series cards, stay away from this driver if rf2 is your main thing. 12.11 beta driver is still the king for 6000 series for rf2. I think results speak for themself.

Maybe it has to do with your "modded to 6970 shaders"?

this is RF2 almost full whack (bar environment reflections and full shadows) i dont think it looks that bad, not up against pcars and AC but not that horrific.

Also worth pointing out those 2 upper pics are from a 3rd party track converted from rF1 I believe. AC will not look very good either if you run rF1 tracks with it.

Im using an ancient HD4870 1gb (with pretty old drivers anyway) so I guess installing those drivers isn't going to be beneficial for me huh? Can anyone confirm?

I can confirm this, new driver is a step backwards with 6950.

Well I never used 12.11 beta drivers as they have never been released to xp32. I guess that's why it made a big difference on my end. HD6870

This is by far the best driver, at least for the 290 and rf2 and in my case it is a performance increase of at least 100 %. Although the relatively weak and old cpu ( Phenom 955 ) the performance is exceptionally well. The interesting thing before with the half of the grid the sys was overloaded and a smooth gameplay impossible. Now it is possible to double the number and
still enjoy a smooth gameplay with higher gfx settings, while 60 fps feel like 120 before. I think I 'm going to further optimize let's see where there's anything to get.

In any case the result with the current settings:

20 Civic / Silverstone / start position 10 / ~ 3 rounds

Resolution 5992x1080 - MultiView / off - Sync / off - FXAA / off - AF 8x - 4x MSAA (CCC) - Shadow Blur / optimal - rest full / max

Fps Min 42, Max 71, Avg 57

Each optimization is now just a win but I'm just happy for this increase, the driving experience is another, the visuals are better, all in all is more satisfactory. :)

It's getting to the stage now where AMD are doing almost everything nVidia have been with their drivers. Hope AMD are aware of the backwards movement on the older hardware though. Nothing much we can do about it.

HD7950 here and 12.11 beta11.

Retested with the benchmark in the old 3D "Nvidia vs. AMD", here the results:

1920*1080 12.11 b11 Min=39; Max=60; Avg=46.569

1920*1080 14.4 Min=30; Max=57; Avg=37.434

If you consider only the numbers 12.11 is still MUCH BETTER.
But strangely enough 14.4 seems to me smoother.
