One thing I miss from BTB is awesome scatter/planting tool which was very detailed and easy to use, and provided non-buggy results. However there is similar tool in Max - scatter, under compound objects. Too bad it is very restricted, and also quite buggy sometimes. I wonder if there is some sort of similar but better tool available for Max, or is it maybe improved for later Max versions up from 9?
I haven't tested it myself, since, so far 3DSMax Scatter has worked fine, but there is Carbon Scatter from e-on software. It's based on Vue's Ecostystem "scattering" technology. It's fairly reasonably priced compared to 3DSMax, and if you're working on a paid project, it will probably make up its cost in time-saved.
