What makes rFactor 2 an ultra-realistic simulator? It is becoming outdated in all areas, not even its cars have the same physical advances, it is not even able to simulate the use of the clutch, we all know the problems that this simulator has...

Is iRacing hyper mega realistic? Is ACC? What is the reason for not being so?

Is it your feelings that determine what is realistic or not? As you can understand, these feelings are different for each person.

I think we are about a decade overdue for a conversation needed since GTR2.
Seems taboo every time I have mentioned it ( every 6 months like forever ) lol

If you had a think tank, sandbox, call it what you will with the best engine coders physics gurus and others from all studios.......
Could they or couldn't they build a better engine ?
If the answer is NO then we already lost.

    My future is that.

Some studios, I did not say all and remember it's a side project funded by people who drive all studios.
So a few studios work together (on the side ) form a company could even merge into real industry like ISIMotor ( rF2Pro )
We pay a fee yearly to be able to drive betas, like it will never become a sim, right.
    Funded 101%

Does not matter if it took them another 12 years to design a better engine they could all use.

IMHO the benefits would be huge, I mean assuming they could pull it off.

    POPCORN ! :)

What and how good ACE will be is immaterial.
In a day it will be 90%+ positive in Steam no matter what it drives like or what features it lacks.
Once again proving where the vast majority of communities focus lies.
    It's all about the ......

What happened when rFactor1 was the most popular simulator? Where did these people go?

To get good reviews you have to do things right.

rF1 was all good, many many many fun mods. It was a bit like rF2 in terms of modding, the paradigms and qualities were all over the place, but there were always nuggets of gold here and there. I remember having fun in rF1 with Opel Lotus Omega and F50LM (there was an interesting pack of what I assume was ripped cars, but they had decent physics) as well as various historic cars also I continued to enjoy a lot, and about that time bought AC and DLC one with Nords and ten epic cars was released. AC had lots of official nicely streamlined quality stuff, physics were decent and realistic enough at that time IMO, modding in AC was booming, UI was nice and rather easy, many other good things were coming up for AC and it ran well on my midcore laptop. It won against rF1 to me, I couldn't even dream to even run rF2 at that time lol

Currently ACE has to do to AC, what AC did to rF1 then. Obviously it also has to beat rF2, but rF2 is in the small dark corner comparing to AC, although not insignificant, iMO thats major failure rF2 must be at least equal to AC...

However... I miss the most, the hours I spent in LFS cruise servers, where they simulated traffic, they had police lol It was very fun, who played those ? I remember you had to accumulate credits by driving optimally for a long time, and then you were leveling up to faster car. And I also miss rallying in RBR. I must say though I think the Dirt Rally 1, the swansong of codemasters, depending on content is not too bad either, but it is not RBR.

When I rant about physics being on a path that is not entirely realistic, and that it is a little more rosy version of reality that is going to be future of simracing (and for huge part already present of it) , I mean that there aren't going to be things like this happening:

Here we have bad FFB issue, and tires acting weird (broken physics):

    Here is an accident avoided:

Few years later a young less experienced driver with same car on same turn crashed this car, and there were suing about who is going to pay up and so on...., I wonder if he might have had his skills based too much on rosy naive "it is not about this and that" and "just have fun, much passion" simulations.

Simulations are weird in that way that it is actually a huge hassle to get imperfections of real life accurately. Obviously irl people work hard to achieve most perfect results. In simulations it is actually much less work to achieve perfect functionality of elements, than to replicate all subtle imperfections. And then as a bonus, people don't want imperfections in their cars (I don't see such demands, on the contrary appreciates perfection, much passions), so why bother simulating them ?

There are a lot of graphical issues, I hope they won't be there in three months.

Clearly not yet ready for release as early access!
    • Weird rain shadow under the car that comes & goes
    • Puddles don't have a splash when the car goes through them
    • Extremely loud puddle sound compared to exhaust noise (probably okay for street cars)
    • Dry skid sound used on a wet track
    • Weird water spray effect when going downhill at Bathurst, worse than the rF2 puffs

It's probably not possible to comment on the realism of the physics engine just by watching a few videos in my opinion.

Realism is subjective, so it cannot be determined based on personal opinions.

But I think that based on the steering wheel's reactions while driving, some conclusions can be drawn. In my opinion, any doubts about hardcore simulation or simcade are cleared. I had serious doubts about Stefano and Aris' retirement. What do you think?

Sorry for not knowing spanish, had to translate lol First of all, I am not physics guru of this forum, I am physics guru of whole simracing. :D

    I wish.

What can I say, first of all I really like how they are planning to deal with modding. For that reason I hope ACE will blow AC1 away.

What I think about physics ? I think it will blow AC away. It looks like it from footage. It would be much easier to judge if there was sound, but it is still a lot of visual information. However, it doesn't look like it will be super highlevel realism sim from these videos. It will be high realism sim it looks like. Somewhere close to where AC1 is. Obviously it has rain. Wet driving looks alright but nothing impressive to me. I think Kunos way of physics simulation is to have as realistic as possible simulation while having it least annoying as possible. Thats ends up being good simulation that is just little bit polished around rough edges that are not perceived as :fun: by majority. It is actually apparent from video already. You'd expect seeing people pushing cars on wet to have some twitchy moments, to experience these little sharp tire gripping/slipping/gripping moments. But you can't see that, at least I haven't noticed a hint of it. It might end up as being nice for people and they might actually love racing in rain, however these milky soft uneventful slides are also in a way annoying in terms of how unexciting they are, but slides like that does happen IRL in wet, but you'd really expect to see lots of twitching, not necessarily terrible uncontrolable, but you'd want to see car beign nervous in wet on the limits.

This is just AC and not even the best moding example :D

Definitely possible. But of course, can't call it super exact. I thin kdepending on knowledge and observation skills, some people can't comment even through driving themselves. And almost nobody will be able to make clear judgement after driving only for couple minutes for first time and doing it in not very subtle way.

The problems of judging through videos might be lack of sound. The latency of monitor captured in video. The drivers might just not be very good, it takes good driver to drive car realistically, and not only that, he also needs to be used to sim. Some great drivers in sim don't have proper sense of speed and keeps crashing. Some worse drivers, although experienced simracers might just not be driving the right way and thus not experiencing what is offered.

Last but not least, developers can alter the way they aim for their physics to be perceived later towards early access, or even during early access. And all of that happened with ACC.
I personally think it is probably 10x more difficult to try and hit physics that are optimally loved by as many people as there can be, than just aiming and doing proper serious realistic physics. Everytime there will be bunch of unhappy people. And IMo if ACE is going to be similar to ACE and not aiming for higher levels of physics that rF2 and iRacing are offering, while trying to be least annoying possible but still realistic, then good luck for them, it should be a hit racign game IMO And there will be many people raving about how it is going to be best simulation there is, but it is not really going to be that.

That's not what I see, in the first video you can see him completely losing control of the Hyundai when he hits the wet part of the track at min 01:00, 02:40, 04:20, 05:30...

In Alpine you can see that the traction control is activated and an experienced driver has serious difficulties to keep the car on the track.

It starts at min 06:50 of this video:

I was hoping to see the best driving from overtakegg video. But it was really poor, can't judge anything from that. That guy was driving without sound while soaking up loads of info from people talking around him. You can't experience sh*t in such conditions, even GPlaps, who almost seem to be better driver when he talks with chat, would probably drive like noob in such scenario. I think that overtake guy haven't done a single proper lap through whole thing.

This guys driving looks pretty good, one to pay attention to. One the first galance handling looks pretty good.

And wet physics also looks better with his driving, those Alpine laps in wet Bathurst were spectacular. However he was talking all the time, but maybe he just has that mental capacity that he doesn't really need to concentrate, or he could have actually driven a lot faster and smoother...

It would be fabulous if ACE reached and equaled the level of realism of rFactor 2 and LMU.

Personally, this seems very unlikely to me.

I am not very enthusiastic and did not want to waste time watching the available videos.

I prefer and will (affirmatively) probably buy ACE, unlikely before 6 months have passed (I prefer to test a mature game, especially since the probability that I will invest in it in the end is very moderate), and at that time I will make up my mind.

I have 15,000 km of piloting in real life and 4,000 hours of driving in rFactor 2, simulation that I have always considered ultra realistic AND the most realistic in my opinion.

If I say this, it is to respond to the message above saying that it is subjective to judge the realism of a simulation.

For me, what is lacking, tirelessly, is the lack of RL experience of a majority of simracers who lack relevance in their judgment on this subject, and not the lack of objectivity of the person.

This is exactly why I want to test this simulation to judge its realism, and being little interested in it at this moment (at this moment), I do not wish to decipher the steering wheel movements in influencer videos.

But, let's hope that it equals rFactor 2 in the only ultra important area, driving realism.

Yes looks pretty good. I think it might be somewhere between AC1 and rF2 in realism. Will see. Each of those guys drives differently, but all of them looked to be rather chill and not concentrating too much, but in some instances the dynamics looked pretty good.

One thing for certain that ACE will have over rF2 realism will be wet racing lines, viscous and dynamic hindroplaning and water accumulation system on the track, which in rF2 is just lame.

Yes real life seat time in driving on the limit on track is great reference to have. Not critical though.

I think NO WAY ACE will touch what rF2 can do, apart wet physics stuff. But most likely ACE will have content all up to same standard and same paradigm that also will squeeze all of what ACE physics engine will offer, with cars being parametrized slightly on easier side. Sadly I think not a lot of rF2 content touches all what rF2 can do.

I am interested what it will be possible to do through modding. But I think the chassis physics and tire physics will be modest comparing to rF2. As well as many other details. I wonder why there is no comparison ever made of what is doable in rF2 physics vs AC physics. In AC it is like 1/4 of stuff. However in AC content usually comes close to what AC can do, while in rF2 there is lots of content that gets 1/10 of what rF2 can do.
