I'll wait for Tim to clarify his claim of a few hours in the original post. It would be good to know how long it took ISI to do each of the car and the track separately (and what was involved in each). We can then multiply that by some factor (pun intended) to figure out how long it would take an outsider to do the same.

Since there's no possible material assignment in gJed (source: http://wiki.rfactor.net/index.php?title=GJED) there's still a significant workload to be done in the CAD software (i.e.: to implement real road you must to open the GMT in Max or Blender and assign the proper shader for it), so direct conversions still could be done through gJED but I'm supposing here those would be very basic (saying, no real-road, no terrain-shader, etc)

    Congrats ISI!

Your team has served our hunger for speed and online competition very well through the years, a big thank you for all the hard work!

I went through our old Yahoo Group messages to see if I could find anything interesting, here's 2 messages you might find amusing and 1 that may put a smile on your face, hope its not too soon:

    How does it work?

    First rFactor race organised

Generating new lookup data for one tire with the resolution and number of test like a tire from the cobra took me approximately 20hours on a Core i7 4790k. I think this is what takes the most time. As an experienced ISI car artist filling out the suspension sheet and generating the Ultra chassis doesn't take much time. Don't know about graphics...

Whilst there's no material assignment in gJED (so all mapping has to be done in 3D app) there is shader assignment per material i.e. you can change which shader is assigned to each material, modify the properties of that shader and see the results 'live'.

I don't remember when I last launched rF1, so it seemed to be a suitable clip. With ongoing development of rF2, rF1 is pretty much dead for me, but yeah, I can sing a song - just for old times sake ;)

So I was wrong, if you can assign the shader then it's much more handy than I was guessing.

    Thanks for clarifying it.

I think we're getting caught up in semantics. uvw wrapping and mesh creation? no... texture editing and assignment yes...

    Happy (10th) birthday rFactor !!
Great idea to bring Kodi and Sardian Heights, the look of the past but with latest physic features.
Brings back some nice memories from the good old days also. :)

I like to mention, today is also 30th anniversary of Stefan Bellof's fatal accident at Spa Francorchamps.

Cool!...you learn something old everyday! (My apologies to Luc for my lack of knowledge in these areas. The SLN updates were outstanding)

Perhaps we could change the subject back to the matter at hand?

Nope, no one can convert an entire rF1 car to rF2 in few hours. rF1 car uses mathematical tire model while rF2 uses physical first-principles model of rubber structure and everything. You cannot convert anything from rF1 tire model directly to rF2, it's like comparing apples with oranges. Apart from tire model, most other things convert quite well from rF1 to rF2.

The Kodi is not only a fun car to drive but it can actually make hours of Your life disappear while you smile. No statistics but I've been smiling since it came out and just now wrote this post due to being too busy driving it.

As for the track it is perfect. Elevation change and a city means I'm all in.

@Gupster That video (especially from 2:45 on) is what sweet dreams are made of.
