01icon.dds fails, as does all of rfactor when changing this file. it told me that I could not use DXT type dds format. what format should I use for these icon dds files?

If this is a vehicle ICON.dds file, I usually have to save it as an RGBA8 format inside GIMP2. I'm not sure what options other programs give, and how it's labeled.

I've tried that type RGB8 pallette 256 and it crashes rFactor.

If I remember right, there is a setting for both RGB8 and RGBA8 inside GIMP2, but I have to use the RGBA8 format.

What program do you use to "paint"? Also, maybe someone needs to varify that ARGB8 and RGBA8 are one in the same.

You should use 8.8.8.8 RGB for those images.

This is the image you are refering to right?

Glad to here you got it working. Before I came to my solution, I was trying everything under the sun to get it to work. I finally got smart and started correlating size differences and other such importants before coming to the way I do it now. I haven't loaded up my PSP8 onto this computer yet, just been comfortable using GIMP for now.

I downloaded Gimp but couldn't find the dds side of it. so I gave up until I saw the 8888AGRB version.

Good to see you managed to get it working! I had to look for it as well the first time. Little info is known about the .dds files other then the main skin files.
