Was behind you for half a lap. The only thing you have to do, is go full throttle in some sections you wouldn't think you could. Just have to be more agressive with the steering wheel in those sections to control de reactions of the car (Even the right hander where yo find a big house at the exit can be done full throttle, but that's the most difficult to do)
Hi Nick, Do you drive a real car in your day to day life? Or a Little Tikes one (I see you mention you are a dad) Okay. Marc.
I also get that feeling of "ohh, I should have said THIS... oh well, too late now..." But I'm not sure I've ever done it 7 years later...
Some great advice here. I will add.….. 1)Watch the video Going Faster by Skip Barber all the way through at least twice, ignore the old haircuts as physics hasn't changed much. here is the link.. 2) Choose a fairly simple car (USF2000 or the Skip Barber#) and a simple track like Limerock Park and do heaps* of laps. Do a session where you just try to make the track wider. A session where you play with braking points One session where you practice regressive braking, trail braking and it's impact on turn-in and rear stability. A session where you just follow AI to learn the line. A session where you play with moving your apex point a few feet further around or closer to see the impact of early or late apex. Each of these sessions might be a whole evening. If you go online and race other people use Replay Office to merge the videos and you can analyse sector by sector what the faster guys are doing different. You can also sit in their cockpit and watch onboards. # A simpler lower powered car will let you learn basics in a longer window for each action. What happens over 3 tenths in a Skippy happens in 1 tenth in an F1 car. So learn at slower speeds. *Heaps of laps might be 300 or more if you need it. I did 1000 laps of a track when trying to make the level for an FSR team and that was division 3! Finally (blatant advertisement warning here) you can buy my guide. The Sim Racers Performance Guide for €10.
Out of curiosity, what times are you getting at Spa now? I'm always interested in how things progress over time.
A 3.57 in an F2. Right, tonight I will test and let you know. Although I can't for the life of me remember what version of Spa I used. I can't even remember what the F2 I used was!
My first attempt at spa was in a GT3 and at the end of my first session I was around the 2:60 mark. Cars have come a little way since then and so have I, I hope. I'm into the 2:16 area now in a "similar" car so I'm happy with that.
I think that nice guy can help you. Take the 30 min time. He was an actual driver and gives good tips. Have fun with the videos ! Is a funny guy.
I love how people respond to oooold posts with fresh advice. F2 at classic spa, surely? Neither of those should have changed much.
I found it funny, and is a good reminder for me to see how I have improved (hopefully) Ah yes, Classic Spa! I was wondering how I was doing a 3.57 around Modern! Going to run that lap now
Perhaps I will try again later. I just remembered that it wasn't the modern F2 car, but the Spark F2! Let's just say there's a pile of wheels, suspension parts and wings lying all over Spa 1966 now.
There's been a pile there forever! Well, since 1966 anyway... 3:57 at modern spa would have been... interesting
I would like to give you a quote from Ross Bentley. I almost read his book Ultimate Speed Secrets as a Kindle version. "Focus your eyes where you want to go, not where you don’t want to go or where you are". This book helped a lot to improve me. If I can tell you something else, try a smaller class like SimKart or the Formula Vee from the Reiza package. It is worth it! Everyone starts small and slowly increases .
@memoNo1 while I'm sure the OP still appreciates advice, nearly the whole thread is from 2012. I also think you mangled the quote from the book you almost read (I don't think that's what you meant ).
Was edited. Thanks for the hint. As I said my English is not very good. And that the thread is 7 years old is not supposed to prevent a profitable exchange, right?
