He survived the 1970's with one of the most incredible stories of survival and plain stubborness. He was incredibly intelligent, irreverent, and competent. Extremely respectful driver who also knew how to stand his ground. A legend who elevated the idea of a competent driver who also knows how to setup his car, serving as inspiration for greats such as Nelson Piquet. His passing caught me by surprise. I figured his latest visit to the hospital would be like all others, temporary. What terribly sad news.
Indeed sad news, it looked as if he would come back to the Mercedes F1 Team soon. He was one of the greatest. I always enjoied watching him driving in the past and also his statements and comments on tv, as the leading member of the board of the Mercedes f1 team. R.I.P.
He was without a doubt one of the greatest F1 drivers. I am also always happy to watch his interviews, because he was so real, simple and straight forward. There was nothing fake about that man.
I met him in Stuttgart during the Stars and cars event in the soccer stadium two or three years ago. What a great guy. I just can watch re live races, I've never seen him in action bc I'm too young. But I really loved him. What a great loss for the racing word. Niki you are a legend. RIP.
