tried both multi-player and single(issue same. Same laps/time ish aswell)
with ai no ai lots ai
    turned off replays
told bios to not throttle cpu if hot (cleaned case out aswell)
updated nvida drivers and t500 wheel drivers
    tried all assorted gfx options
fresh rf2 install no mods just 397 gt3 packs etc
next is fresh install (hope to avoid)
issue is after doing 1 lap or so i fps tanks from 60(vid card vsync) to less than 20 sometimes single digits.
its also happening exactly the same in automobalista but no other games using the wheel or any other game that dosnt
whenever i return to pits fps goes back to normal and i can leave the pits again full fps till ive done 1 or 2 laps
    any idea would be appreciated

EDIT: tried fullscreen and borderless problem is exactly the same either way also all como's of game vsync and video driver vsync
thou when ever i get the fps drop if i hit the windows key (works fullscreen and borderless) bring up the taskbar then click back to game fps is fixed

    Ok first things first:

    1) Are your graphics drivers up to date?
    2) Are there and programs running in the background that you could turn off?
    3) Are you Windows System & Drivers all up to date?

Also make sure you're not running any "beta" Build of any kind, right click Rfactor2 in Steam (select Properties) and on the Betas Tab select "Opt-Out of all betas"

    1:yes did it all today
2: yes did all i could (also had task manager up while playing to see usage when drop hit ram 30+% didnt take note of cpu % thou it was low too)
3: yes i think so i always let it update its self
and yes im opt'd out of all beta's
it really seems as if the game goes into background mode when fps drops hit . esp seems so w/e i press windows key or alt tab the fps is fixed
thou no other game on my system dose this onli rf2 and automobalista and this is new behavior since just before xmas it was fine

Put the lowest graphics settings possible in rf2, no AA and see if there is again the issue.

Definitely sounds like loss of focus. There are programs you can use to try and work out which program is stealing focus, google has brought some up but I don't want to recommend any because I don't know them well - I feel like there was a discussion about this here maybe. @JimmyT mentioned one fairly recently, maybe he can advise?

The Windows power management sounds like a posible culprit. As you heat up the cpu, it lowers the temp by decreasing the power. Set your power settings to performance, see if that helps.

Windows Focus Logger is the program from Adminscope. Use this at your own discretion as it logs windows activity. I haven't noticed any unauthorised outbound transmissions but I'm not a security specialist. Also, I'm just some bloke you don't know so don't trust me, do some research first, I did.
The focus logger found that a background program (can't remember which now, might have been anti virus????) was stealing focus and if it took it long enough the game would crash while waiting for graphics to come back.

Just found the other thread and this also helped me at the time. Thanks @MarcG for the tips back then.

The pause on loss of focus tweak was most helpful.

    From MarcG
    - In your player.json search for the following and change 'true' to 'false', it might not help but may be worth a try:
    "Pause If Focus Lost":true,
"Pause If Focus Lost#":"whether to automatically pause if window loses focus (single-player only)",

Oh and it was steam VR that was stealing the focus in my case.

I'm pretty sure that Windows doesn't directly decrease CPU power, at least not for games or programs you run in foreground. Lowering CPU power would screw up gaming completely because temps are expected to rise while stressing the CPU. CPU's already have inbuilt logic to throttle down when temperatures get very hot.

Do you have programs that consume RAM or GPU RAM running in background? Because when rF2 gets starved out of VRAM or RAM, it starts to behave similarly for me. In Windows 10 task manager performance tab (you can leave it running in background) you can track both RAM and GPU RAM usage (under the new GPU tab).

no programs that dont have to be are running. been through task manager cpu is @ 50% system ram 30% GPU 3d is at 100% and ram usage is 50%. w/e the drops hit gpu goes to 25% ish and exactly same usage as if i just tabbed out in fact fps is same when i do intently tab out. so i think for some reason somthing is forcing it to go into that mode.

There is a program called "allways on top" (just google it) that lets you set what ever window to stay on top. not entirely sure if i will solve this problem, but you who have this problem might want to give it a try?
It works so that you select the window that you want to stay on top simply by clicking it, and then use the hotkey (ctrl space) to lock it on top.
