    Hi Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago I was in the hugely fortunate position to drive Kimi Raikkonen’s 2012 F1 car at Paul Ricard. Here is my experience with a mini video in it, along with the TV report I did for BBC World.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/44569302

    BBC World TV report:

I had three laps - an outlap, a flying lap and an inlap on the shorter 3.8km course. It was the most incredible experience of my life.

Hi - no neither me nor my employer paid. I got an email two weeks before the event from Renault F1 asking if I would be interested (like, yes!!). I did a piece last year on Robert Kubica’s test with Renault at Hungary was the background.

It may seem crazy fun (and yes of course it was) but never underestimate the amount of work from a tv production point of view to get these things to work. Renault F1 were superb in their support but it also requires lots of planning from “our” side too. The day is very structured and you have to be in top of it in terms of production to make it work.

The experience was very similar. The feel through the wheel was very familiar and how the car handled comparable to here and also AC. But, the experience of the drive in a sim I would say is 10 per cent of the experience because the forces, the vibration and the sheer exhilaration of the moment takes over. What rF2 and the others can replicate in a simulation is absolutely spot on though - even though I could nowhere near push the real car of course.

not driven an f1 yet, but this is the answer i expected, in the bigger open on top car i've driven
i found the g-forces were much more than i antiasapated + wouldn't push any where near to the edge in fear of crashing & damaging ,
if one could get use to gforces & not bother about damage so much then a direct comparison could be better made

Yes - an outlap, flying lap and inlap limits what you might do - and a spin and possible stall is half an hour of track time gone with a red flag. I think 50 laps would give a much better comparison of course with all the build up - if of course a normal neck could take it!

Thanks for the reply, a lot of talk many times about amount of FFB Between real and sim and to be in the same car as the ISIF1 it’s good to hear the similarities .. Having only drive F ford and Vee which l found similar to sim it’s nice to hear of actual F1 comparisons

Wow, that is awesome. What was the most surprising or shocking thing about driving it?

i would say it should be 0,1% of but you drove it. I didnt :(
Which fov did you used? :D
Seriously, how is the view compared to a 3 screen setup (is 27" monitors enough to get similar to the real view?? How stiff is the pedals and how much you have to push for full throthle (i mean how many centimeters is the full course of the pedal from stationary to full gas)?
Do you have any idea of the total costs of this adventure?
    sry bad english
