Doing it this way you will manually have to navigate to your steamcmd folder.
Doing it the way I suggest you should already be in the steamcmd folder.
In win7 when you shift right click you get open command window here.

I’ve just noticed on the rfactor2 launcher page there’s a host/dedicated server option on that

    Why doesn’t that work ??

Dont like these stupid black shell powered boxes

So I just press host & it will work
But I need to setup the event eg track & car 1st

Can I forget about those she’ll power boxes & all those irritating steam steps now ?

Now have steam & rfactor2 installed on pc I intend to host with
+that black box working that checks for updates , going back to it later to see I can make sense of next stages in procedures

Opening ports on my hub is easy I got everything working straight away with my WiFi cctv cams & smart home stuff

Just thought , so I still need to mess with the black power boxes ??
I can I now discard all that hassle ?

Just create the event then press the host button on the launcher ?
...of course that’s after opening the relevant ports on my router

    Hi

What do you mean “stand alone server”
What else could it stand next to?

My laptop is going to be a deadicated server I hope, I will join the server from another PC

Do I still need the black power box ?

    Hi,

ok, there is no way I'm going to get the black power box to download the rfactor2 track and cars that I want,
I do however have rfactor2 downloaded to the intended deadicated server PC

can I simply drag and drop the folders from "locations" & "cars" folders
(these have not been used on this PC)

    ???

I can find the content in the rfactor2 download

but no empty cars and locations folders in the downloaded ( by the black box) deadicated server folder

    this is annoying already

    Hi Mangolesti

yes I installed steam then let it download rfactor2, then downloaded the packages (cars and tracks)

been fiddling with the black box, it will do nothing i want it to do, that guide on steam should be deleted as it will just cause more frustration for innocent people, its like a japanese POW torture

the steamcmd.exe in the downloaded folder, works, when i type quit it exits/disapears

that all the involvement I really want with that , happy to run it but dont want to use it for anything else as it will not do anything

it reminds me of when i use to do basic programs on my ZX spectrum

what is this going on about ?

"Once you have downloaded the packages you need, you can install them. The easiest way is to first copy the files you downloaded into the "Packages" folder of your installation. -what installation ? Then, using a shortcut you've setup earlier in the guide, -zero chance of that working so dont have one run the module manager.
The packages should now show up in the list and you can use the "Install" button to install them. -what list? -I have the "racing" folder with the deadicated files in still thats it"

As Ive stated above, i now have a rfactor2 installation on this PC but not sure how to get the car/tracks i want to use in the server to the server part if thats possible

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

can I not use the mas thingto grab the files from the rfactor2 installation
then somehow save that into the deadicated new "racing" folder I created
( as advised on the steam deadicated server guide)

for some reason the "steamcmd.exe" will not run,

"this app will not run on your PC contact the software publisher"
-strangly the icon has changed now too, I tried to run the steamerrorreporter.exe in same folder but that did pretty much nothing

it ran a moment ago, just as I thought I was making progress to use it (black box) to download Kartsim
-which i think the code for that is "1003"

5hrs of my monday evening gone, giving up for now

Have a squiz in...steam/steamapps/workshop/content/365960. Each piece of content will be in its own numbered folder under that.

" Once you have downloaded the packages you need, you can install them. The easiest way is to first copy the files you downloaded into the "Packages" folder of your installation. ---where are the downloads ??? which packages folder the one in my "races" folder that has all the steam deadicated stuff in ???
Then, using a shortcut you've setup earlier in the guide, run the module manager. The packages should now show up in the list and you can use the "Install" button to install them. "

EDIT ...found I think the files in the "workshop content" folder in the racing folder (which is the steam deadicated folder) they are all .rfcmp files, do i simply copy these to the packages folder ? ( packages folder in same Racing folder which is the steam download)

    EDIT again,
somehow I think I did it, I think it found the Kartsim stuff in my already installed rf2
anyway its in my content list as installed (I know because I called it "Kartsim Online"
    I'm surprised

just dont know how to get the server going now

    EDIT 3

didnt work , no idea which the target is , tried with both "" & without :

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Bin64\rFactor2 Dedicated.exe" +path="C:\Users\adrian judge\Desktop\racing\package\kartsim.rfmod"

    Hi Mangolesti

I deleted everything and just followed your video with success, realised I'd previously done a few things wrong before trying to follow the ghastly steam guide,
I got the CMD thing to download some content (Kartsim stuff) it put it in the :

    Success. Downloaded item 1344546612 to "C:\Users\adrian judge\Racing\steamCMD\steamapps\workshop\content\365960\1344546612" (88497745 bytes)

(realisedI did have to put in my steam login & pass)

I then re-directed the path folder of the Mod manager yellow bllock thing to this dorectorybut it didnt see the downloaded file,
I then put the path in the mod manager back to how it was (same as yours), it shows the commentary etc (no idea what i need this for ?)

    any idea's ?
