I went from a 6600k to an 8600k and the only improvement I was able to make whilst maintaining 90fps was Shadows from Low to Medium... and I think that was down to being able to OC more thanks to a watercooler system.

I was surprised at this.... given the single core performance difference between 6600K (ranked 108 on CPU single core benchmark) and 8600K, ranked at 10 on the same benchmark.

cpu may never run out of realtime for every user, otherwise physics might not be compareable.
modern cpu will always have a lot of performance left unused. rF2 is mainly gpu dependent.

 

Is your issues with AI? How does it run online/solo? My i3 2100 could run 39 AI very well in DX9, once they went to DX11 it became impossible, even 20 AI is a problem in some mods, but online/solo is no problem even with 35 car grids, since I only run online this is not a problem to me. But I need to upgrade

 

That's at least mainly because 8700K turbo clocks up to 4.7 GHz, 6700K to just 4.2. If you're already overclocking as most with these CPU's are, it makes little sense to upgrade from 6th gen.

I will do a test later with single vs triple, but unfortunately it will be a bit GPU limited due to my poor GPU. The mistake people do when they measure CPU load is to look at the total load when they need to look at one thread specifically. The in-game CPU bar is also limited as it only monitors the physics thread, so it doesn't tell if the rendering thread is bottlenecked, which is often the case with VR or triples.

 

I would never use turbo clocks to OC CPU. Most of 6th, 7th and 8th gen K CPU`s are easy to OC to 4.7-4.8 GHz without any turbo options but there may bee some problems with high temps. However high temps can bee solved with as low voltage as possible and with water cooling or proper CPU fan.

I7 4770k at 4.4 GHz, single threaded score 2640.

I7 8700k at 4.4 GHz, single threaded score 2645.

Yep, you made my point. Because overclockers don't use turbo, 0.5 GHz higher turbo of 8th gen makes no difference, Intel probably just panicked with AMD Ryzen release and decided to put turbo higher. But once you overclock, all those CPU's get to 4.8 GHz anyway . So in that sense an 8th gen upgrade from 6th is useless for rF2.

 

I could have sworn some of you guys said pverclocking cpus in rf2 was pointless.

There is a lot more to different generations of CPU than speed. Not everything can be oversimplified. If you want a truthful answer you should go to intel.com as these cpu and gpu opinions only lead to misinformation. When telling somone what hardware they should get, one should not think with their wallet. Use logic instead. There is no reason not to upgrade and have the maximum amount of ram possible other than money. Sadly I cannot afford either just yet.

 

I think it's different in VR.

 

I mentioned that even though I struggle with frame rate and pacing the load on system is not full .
If feels like I'm hitting 100 % CPU or GPU but MSI AB shows only 40 - 60% on either.
I get fully utilised at 4k on GPU but don't have triples to test .

How do I install this thru steamcmd server ? I have these updated versions but it wont pickup as an update via modmanager.........

Only questions about CPU performance regarding Latest Release 1109 Rain Effects AND MORE are answered and I think it is fine.
BTW, I7 3770k at 4.4 GHz, single threaded score is 2440

@Christopher Elliott I have copied the relevant rfmcp files to my dedicated server packages folder and can't find them in the mod manager to install them, so when I run the server with the GT3 pack it downloads the old (previous) version back to my game PC. Mercedes_AMG_GT3_2017_v1.99 for example. How do I overcome this problem?
